One of baseball’s premier pitching prospects before undergoing Tommy John surgery in August 2024, Tiedemann progressed to throwing off a mound late last season but never returned to minor league action. The 23-year-old southpaw’s swing-and-miss raw stuff makes him an intriguing name to watch in Grapefruit League action, though he’s unlikely to reach Toronto before the latter part of next season barring any setbacks.

Ohtani represents the overwhelming favorite to capture MVP honors for the fourth time in five years after another otherworldly two-way campaign for the World Series champion Dodgers, launching 55 home runs and posting a 2.87 ERA across 47 innings over 14 starts in his return to the mound. Schwarber did everything possible to make this a close race, blasting a career-high 56 homers and driving in 132 runs during his age-32 season with the Phillies before hitting free agency. Soto capped his first year with the Mets by leading the majors in walks (127) and on-base percentage (.396) while also setting career highs with 43 homers and 38 stolen bases. The winner will be announced on Thursday, November 13.

Scherzer’s remarks came in the wake of Toronto’s heartbreaking Game 7 loss to the Dodgers, which capped one of the most thrilling Fall Classics in recent memory. The 41-year-old future Hall of Famer allowed one run over 4 1/3 innings in that contest and said afterward there’s “no way” that was his final pitch in the majors. He proved to be a true X-factor for the Blue Jays during their postseason run after injuries limited him to just 17 regular-season starts. While he’s unlikely to carry much fantasy value next year due to omnipresent physical concerns, his playoff experience, big-game moxie, and competitiveness should appeal to contenders seeking to fortify the back end of their rotation this offseason.

To say Yamamoto was deserving of the honor would be a massive understatement. The 27-year-old ace authored a 105-pitch complete-game masterpiece in Game 2 against Toronto, earning a crucial win that evened the best-of-seven series. He returned to the mound in Game 6 with the Dodgers facing elimination and delivered again, allowing just one run over six strong innings. Then, on zero days’ rest, Yamamoto recorded the final eight outs in Game 7 — twice pitching out of jams with a runner on third and less than two outs without surrendering a run. His legendary workhorse performance — throwing caution to the wind with a championship on the line — stands out even more in an era when pitchers’ workloads are so carefully managed He was the defining force in what will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the greatest World Series ever played.

The 27-year-old hurler fired a 105-pitch complete game masterpiece against the Jays in Game 2, earning a much-needed victory that evened the Series at one game apiece. He then took the hill with the Dodgers’ backs up against the wall in Game 6 on Friday and earned another victory — surrendering just one run over six stellar frames. He then got the final eight outs in Game 7 on Saturday night on zero days rest, twice pitching his way out of jams with runners on third base and less than two outs without allowing a single run. Outside of one hanger to Enrique Hernández, Yesavage was basically flawless and escaped the few mini-jams he faced without issue. The 22-year-old has the Blue Jays a win away from their first title since 1993, and he could be an option out of the bullpen for Game 7, if necessary. He underwent an MRI on Monday evening that seemingly didn’t reveal any structural damage. There should be an official lineup at some point in the next few hours.

Toronto manager John Schneider will hand the ball to Yesavage for a potential elimination game later this week at Dodger Stadium depending on the outcome of Game 4. The dynamic 22-year-old pitching prospect has been a revelation this postseason with a 4.26 ERA and 27/10 K/BB ratio across 19 innings over four starts this postseason. He allowed two runs over four innings last week during Toronto’s Game 1 victory back at the Rogers Centre. An interesting wrinkle: he’s been more effective at home than on the road, where opposing teams can use pregame pitching machines to better simulate his unique release point.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has flip-flopped Hernández, who snapped out of an early-series slump with a four-hit effort during Monday’s Game 3 extra-inning marathon, and Max Muncy on his lineup card as they prepare to face Blue Jays veteran Shane Bieber on Tuesday night in Los Angeles. The only other note here is that the Dodgers continue sticking with Andy Pages in center field despite the fact he’s batting .083 this postseason. Here’s the full lineup: Shohei Ohtani (DH), Mookie Betts (SS), Freddie Freeman (1B), Will Smtih (C), Hernández (RF), Muncy (3B), Tommy Edman (2B), Enrique Hernandez (LF) and Pages (CF).

The Blue Jays are still waiting on the results from that MRI before determining Springer’s status for Game 4 on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium. The 36-year-old top-of-the-order table-setter left Monday’s eventual extra-inning marathon following an awkward swing in the seventh inning. There should be a more definitive update on his status heading into Game 4.

In every October run, there’s a swing that becomes shorthand for everything else. This one will be remembered forever — especially if the Dodgers go on to win their second straight title. Freeman put the exclamation point on the longest game in World Series history, ending a nearly seven-hour extra-inning marathon with a majestic fly ball that barely cleared the center-field fence. This game had everything: spectacular defense on both sides, heroic relief outings from unheralded arms like Toronto lefty Eric Lauer — who fired 4 2/3 shutout frames — and Dodgers righty Will Klein, who delivered four scoreless innings on a career-high 72 pitches. And, as the 19th inning loomed, Yoshinobu Yamamoto was warming up in the bullpen — just two days removed from throwing a 105-pitch complete game. The two clubs will meet again in just a few hours for Game 4 of the Fall Classic at Dodger Stadium with Shohei Ohtani taking the mound opposite Shane Bieber. Are you not entertained?

Ohtani continued terrorizing Toronto’s pitching staff in the Fall Classic by launching two homers as part of a four-hit effort where he reached base safely in all nine of his plate appearances, helping keep the Dodgers afloat in the back-and-forth 18-inning slugfest that took nearly seven hours to complete. The 31-year-old two-way sensation, who will start Game 4 on the mound for Los Angeles in a few hours, connected on an inside fastball from Blue Jays starter Max Scherzer, walloping a 389-foot line drive into the right-field seats to give the Dodgers a 2-0 advantage in the third inning. The 31-year-old two-way superstar’s fifth round-tripper in his last four playoff contests came a couple frames after scalding a 113.8-mph ground-rule double down the right-field line in the opening frame. Ohtani injected some much-needed life with a game-tying homer against Toronto reliever Seranthony Domínguez in the seventh inning. He was intentionally walked in four of his final five plate appearances as the Blue Jays ostensibly wanted nothing to do with him after four extra-base hits to open the contest.

Kirk’s fifth round-tripper of the postseason swung the momentum in the early stages of a contest that eventually went nearly seven hours over 18 innings as he took Dodgers starter Tyler Glasnow deep in the fourth inning. He also made an incredible throw to cut down Shohei Ohtani attempting to steal second base in the bottom of the ninth inning. The 26-year-old backstop was lifted for a pinch-runner in the 12th inning following a leadoff walk. The Blue Jays will have to regroup and get ready to face Shohei Ohtani in Game 4 at Dodger Stadium in a few hours.

Scherzer became the first player to pitch for four teams in the Fall Classic during his career and was long gone by the time this one was eventually decided in extra innings. The 41-year-old future Hall of Famer was burned by the long ball during the early stages of this one as Teoscar Hernández and Shohei Ohtani connected for solo homers in the second and third innings, respectively. He got some help from teammate Addison Barger, who made a tremendous 98.5 mph throw to cut down Freddie Freeman at the plate to prevent any further damage and end the third.
