Riley tagged Blue Jays’ right-hander Kevin Gausman for a 375-foot (103.9 mph EV) solo shot after an 11-pitch battle in the opening inning. He also singled in the third inning. With his two-hit attack, the 28-year-old slugger is now slashing a healthy .300/.338/.571 to go along with five long balls and 12 RBI on the season.

Olson’s home run was the extent of the Braves’ offense here as they were completely stifled by Yoshinobu Yamamoto. He also drew a walk in the ninth inning, but was stranded at first base. While his .236 batting average has lagged a bit beneath his projections, he has a hit in 20 of his last 26 games since the calendar turned to April and will very likely wind up as one of the most productive run producers in the league when all is said and done this season.

Holmes certainly pitched well enough to win this game if he didn’t have to go up against the red-hot Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Alas, he came out of the gate ready to go against this tough Dodgers lineup. He struck out Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman consecutively to begin the game and retired the first 10 batters he faced overall in order. Then he fell victim to a mini-rally where the Dodgers got two hits on deflected grounders followed by a walk and sacrifice fly. Then, Betts took him deep in his third at-bat, but this was still an amazing start. His slider command was excellent and he buried tons of them on the back-foot of all the talented left-handed hitters in this order. Overall, it was great to seem him pitch well coming off a poor start against the Diamondbacks and he will look to keep the good times rolling in his next scheduled start against the Reds.

That’d be good enough for a win most days, but not with the Braves being limited to one run today. Sale dropped to 1-3 with a 5.84 ERA. The 10-strikeout game was his first in 2025 and 88th of his career. He’s slated to face the Reds next time out.

Where has this version of Báez been? It’s sure fun to see now, and fun to see him appear to enjoy the sport of baseball again. With the two-run homer, he’s now slashing .300/.337/.467 with three roundtrippers and 14 RBI over 90 at-bats. He’s gone deep in three straight games, and while it’s understandable if fantasy managers are skeptical, it’s also not crazy to think he’s capable of being a fantasy helper in 2025. Weirder things have happened, folks.

Smith hit a homer to bring the Rangers to within a dozen in the ninth inning. Still counts. The 27-year-old has been one of the few effective hitters for the Texas offense with a .296/.380/.457 slash with three homers and seven RBI in his 81 at-bats.

Fortunately, it sounds like the 32-year-old superstar was able to avoid any significant injury on Friday after getting injured while attempting to evade a throw at first base while hustling out an infield single in the third inning. He may wind up needing a couple of days off, or to serve as the Guardians’ designated hitter for a few games, but it doesn’t sound like he should be looking at a stint on the injured list. Fantasy managers can now exhale.
