Wells smacked a run-scoring double into left field off of Robbie Ray in the second inning that pulled the Yankees to within four runs at 5-1. His production at the plate has slowed considerably since the first two games of the season, as Wells is hitting just .205/.289/.462 to go with a pair of home runs and six RBI.

Boone’s noncommittal response to reporters came in the wake of Friday’s latest ugly meltdown where Williams was charged with three runs in a blown save against the Blue Jays. The 30-year-old elite stopper said Friday that “nothing’s working right now,” after his latest implosion left him with a bloated 11.25 ERA through 10 appearances. It’s abundantly clear that he could use a bit of a reset, even if it’s only temporary. The Yankees will have a chance to think things over during Saturday’s rainout, but fantasy managers should anticipate Luke Weaver being in the mix for saves until further notice. He’s an obvious pickup in all fantasy formats.

Loáisiga is at least a couple weeks away from making it back to New York’s beleaguered relief corps after missing nearly all of last year recovering from flexor tendon surgery. The 30-year-old righty has plenty of high-leverage experience, so he’ll provide a lift for the Yankees once he’s back.

Persistent rain, and possible thunderstorms, in the New York City area take one of Saturday’s marquee pitching matchups between Fried and a resurgent Kevin Gausman off a jam-packed slate. It’ll be made up as a doubleheader on Sunday with Fried and Gausman likely to take the ball at some point during the twin bill.

Playing his second game of the season after missing time with a hamate bone fracture, Alvarez delivered a two-run blast off Brad Lord in the second inning to drive in the only two runs of the game. The 23-year-old backstop’s return provides a spark for a team that’s already off to a great start at 19-8. His power potential warrants interest in most one-catcher formats at least 12 teams and deeper.

Herrera caught a bullpen session on Saturday and is aiming to begin a minor league rehab assignment by the end of next week. The 24-year-old backstop was originally expected to miss roughly one month after being diagnosed with a bone bruise in his left knee back in early April. It appears there’s a decent shot he’ll rejoin the Cardinals’ lineup at some point in early May.

Fulford returns to the majors just a few hours after being jettisoned to the minors with infielder Aaron Schunk hitting the injured list with a groin strain. The 26-year-old infielder went 1-for-8 with a solo homer in four games with the Rockies after being called up last week.
