The Cardinals had no answers for Nimmo in this one, as he reached base safely in all five of his plate appearances and sprayed the ball all over the park. His fifth inning single was right in the middle of the Mets’ rally that chased Sonny Gray from this game and his seventh inning homer was merely icing on the cake. It had been a trying season for Nimmo, until this week. It started with a four hit, two home run, nine RBI game and then this three hit, two walk performance. In just four games, he’s gone from a .575 OPS to a .720 OPS.

Weird things keep happening to Holmes during his starts. Last week, he had to deal with a rain delay in the middle of the first inning that forced an awkward stop and restart to his outing he had to work through. Here, he took a hard line drive off the ankle and his only poor inning of the game followed immediately. Still, he was able to dig deep for six innings and his second quality start of the season. His strikeouts have dried up a bit over his last two starts, but again each had some strange, mitigating circumstances. Also, he’s commanded his sinker much better over those two starts then he had all season to that point. When that sinker is working, he’s getting more weak contact and ground balls earlier in at-bats, which was more the case last start than in this one where St. Louis had nine hard-hit balls and more than a few of which were in the air. Nevertheless, he now has a 2.95 ERA on the season and looks like a very capable starting pitcher. He’s scheduled to face the Cubs next time out.

Adcock’s stay with the Mets lasted just one day this time around after giving up a walk and a hit over 1/3 of an inning on Thursday. He’ll continue to hone his craft at the Triple-A level until he’s needed once again. Austin Warren was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to take his place in the Mets’ bullpen on Friday.

The 29-year-old hurler will add a fresh arm to the Mets’ bullpen in advance of Friday night’s battle against the Cardinals. He had registered a 4.35 ERA, 1.84 WHIP and a 14/9 K/BB ratio over 10 1/3 innings at Triple-A Syracuse. Ty Adcock was optioned out in a corresponding move on Friday.

In a game that was tied at 1-1 in the ninth, Greene hit a solo blast to give the Tigers a lead. Later that inning, he clobbered a three-run blast to up that score to 9-1. Baseball is weird. Greene has homered eight times in 2025 with a slugging percentage of .504. He’s one of the most underrated young hitting stars in the sport.

The out was his loudest batted ball; he sent Johan Rojas to the wall in center field in a one-run game in the ninth, but Rojas made the catch and had the wind knocked out of him for his trouble. It still went as Gurriel’s first three-hit game of the season, pushing his average back over .200 for the first time in four weeks.

The Diamondbacks were mostly stifled by Brandon Waddell and the Mets’ bullpen in this one as Gurriel was the only member of their lineup to tally multiple hits. His ninth inning double set Arizona up to score some valuable insurance runs that proved vital after the Mets rallied in response, but fell just short. Still, Gurriel and his .181 batting average has put him in danger of losing his starting job.
