De La Cruz scuffled and then some in his 50 plate appearances before the demotion with a slash of .191/.240/.213. He’ll head to Triple-A with Alex Verdugo “ready” for a call-up to the Atlanta outfield. De La Cruz will probably be back at some point over the late spring.

Murphy didn’t start the game, but he laced a three-run double off of Joey Wentz to drive in all three of Atlanta’s runs and tie the game at 3-3 in the eighth inning. Murphy has been splitting time with rookie Drake Baldwin, and these were his first RBIs since April 28th, so it was a much-needed big hit for the veteran.

Sale struck out eight and walked two on the day. He only gave up one extra-base hit, so there wasn’t a ton of damage done against him despite those eight hits. Sale’s fastball velocity was up 1.5 mph, and he posted a 39 percent whiff rate and 34 percent CSW on the day, so nothing to worry about here. He’ll next face off against Garrett Crochet and the Red Sox in Fenway Park, which should be quite a duel.

There’s nothing definitive from Atlanta on Strider specifically, but they’ve set their starting rotation through the middle of next week, which means the earliest he’ll potentially return would be Friday’s series opener against the Red Sox at Fenway Park. It’ll likely come down to whether the club wants to give Chris Sale an extra day of rest before his next start. The 26-year-old righty is expected to be re-evaluated this weekend to determine whether he’s ready to rejoin the club’s rotation. There should be some clarity on his status soon.

Ward atoned for his defensive miscue in the top half of the first inning by smacking a run-scoring double off of Zach Eflin that tied the game at 1-1. He then came around to score on an RBI single off the bat of Logan O’Hoppe. Even with the two-hit attack though, Ward is slashing a miserable .182/.226/.385 on the season to go with eight homers and 17 RBI.

The 35-year-old right-hander threw nine pitches in the outing, all of them strikes, while allowing a pair of hits and striking out a batter. That was his third appearances on his minor league rehab assignment. There has been no clear timeline on how many outings he’ll require before he’s ready to join the Orioles’ bullpen, but it sounds like he’s getting close.

Happ played catch and was able to take swings prior to sitting out Sunday’s game against the Mets, so it appears there’s a chance he’ll be ready for Monday’s series opener against the Marlins. Emerging fantasy star Pete Crow-Armstrong went 1-for-4 with solo homer on Sunday in his second straight appearance in the leadoff spot with Happ out of the lineup.
