Juan Brito is expected to miss 8-12 weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a torn ligament on his thumb.
Brito picked up the thumb fracture while sliding into third base. The 23-year-old will miss the majority of the summer, but could return to the Triple-A lineup — with an outside chance of joining the Guardians — before the end of the 2025 campaign.

Guardians optioned RHP Zak Kent to Triple-A Columbus.
The 27-year-old hurler was just called up on Monday, but he’ll head back to Columbus after allowing one run on three hits and a pair of walks while striking out four batters over three innings in his big league debut. He should get another opportunity with the Guardians before the 2025 season is through.

Zach Neto homered, had three of the Angels’ five hits and stole three bases Saturday in the 5-1 loss to the Twins.
How brilliant of a talent Neto is that not even the Angels could mess him up. He’s 9-for-30 with three homers in eight games since returning from shoulder surgery. He started off as a No. 7 hitter in his first three games, but he’s been in the second spot the last five in a row.

Tim Anderson went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts while making a second straight start over Kyren Paris for the Angels on Saturday.
Coming off a year and a half run as one of the game’s very worst players, Anderson didn’t really do much of anything to earn a spot on the Angels this spring, and it’s hard to understand why he’s playing now. If the Angels don’t believe in Paris — which is justifiable, even if his batted ball numbers this year are still pretty good overall — Kevin Newman sure figures to be the better alternative going forward. Anderson is batting .176/.222/.196 through 54 plate appearances. He has a 27 OPS+ since the beginning of last year and a 49 OPS+ since the beginning of 2023.

Rockies manager Bud Black told reporters Ezequiel Tovar is still 7-10 days from a potential return from the injured list.
Tovar hit the injured list last weekend with a left hip contusion, but figures to be ready to rejoin Colorado’s lineup at some point in early May. He’s gotten off to an extremely slow start at the dish, hitting .212 (14-for-66) with zero homers, four RBI and two steals in 16 games.
