    Cam Smith

    Cam Smith

    HOU • RF • #

Cam Smith homered twice and drove in four runs to help the Astros a 6-4 win over the Padres on Friday.

Smith has his first-ever multi-homer game, and it seems unlikely it’ll be his last. The 2024 first-round pick has had some downs during his first month of MLB action, but that’s to be expected. Smith has upper-echelon talent, and fantasy managers (obviously) shouldn’t give up on him. Just be prepared for some bitter with the better.

    Christian Walker

    HOU • 1B

    Recap

Christian Walker went 2-for-2 with a walk, a sacrifice fly, a run scored and three RBI against the Reds on Sunday.

Walker is quietly 20-for-65 (.307) with two home runs and 11 RBI over his last 17 games. Of course, he was hitting .156 with two home runs and four RBI in the first 21 games of the season. Still, it appears the Astros’ big free agent acquisition is finally starting to figure it out at the plate after an injury derailed his spring training and slow start to the season.

    Yainer Diaz

    Recap

Yainer Diaz went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run against the Reds on Sunday.

Diaz’ home run was his fourth of the season. The 26-year-old catcher was 2-for-33 (.061) with no home runs and one RBI in his first nine games this year. Since then, he’s 29-for-97 (.298) with four home runs and 20 RBI in 25 games. It looks like one of the best hitting catchers in all of baseball is back to normal after a slow start at the plate this season.

    Ronel Blanco

    Recap

Ronel Blanco tossed eight shutout innings and got the win in the Astros’ 6-0 victory over the Reds on Sunday.

Blanco gave up two hits, walked one and struck out 11. It was a dominant performance for the 31-year-old right-hander. While Blanco had a 2.80 ERA last year, his xFIP was 4.09. This year, his ERA is 4.04 and his xFIP is 4.06 after eight starts. Blanco is a solid pitcher with more strikeouts (43) than innings pitched (42 1/3) this year, but it’s unlikely he’ll go on another run to get his ERA down under 3.00. Blanco is lined up to face the Rangers on the road next weekend.

He had 22 more hits than games played (180 to 158) while batting a career-best .322 last year.

    Recap

Addison Barger whacked a solo home run, singled, drew a walk and scored a pair of runs on Sunday as the Blue Jays crushed the Mariners in their series finale in Seattle.

Barger did his damage in the seventh inning, crushing a Collin Snider cutter for a 363-foot (107.2 mph EV) solo shot that extended the Blue Jays’ lead to 8-1. He also drew a walk and scored on George Springer’s three-run blast in the fifth inning. With his 2-for-4 afternoon, Barger is now hitting .241/.305/.407 with one home run and eight RBI in his time with the Jays.
