Kelly continued his torrid start to the year by taking Giants reliever Hayden Birdsong deep in the sixth inning with a no-doubter to left field, kicking off an eventual five-run explosion in the frame. The 30-year-old journeyman backstop has been an unexpected revelation this season in his Chicago debut, batting an astronomical .361/.500/.820 with eight homers and 23 RBI through 20 games. He won’t sustain this stratospheric level of production forever, but fantasy managers should continue to ride the wave. He’s clearly a mixed-league relevant catcher for fantasy purposes until further notice.

Brown issued two walks. Those led off the first and fourth innings, and the Giants went to score all three of their runs in those innings. Brown wasn’t hit hard, and the nine strikeouts were great. He just put himself into bad spots with those walks, and now he’ll take a 3-3 record and a 4.95 ERA into his next start, a favorable home matchup against the Marlins. He’ll be a streaming option in that one.

Horton has been impressive at Triple-A Iowa this season and is in the mix to replace Shota Imanaga (hamstring) this weekend. However, he has also only pitched 205 innings in the minors since being drafted in 2022, and the Cubs are concerned that “Horton has missed out on some developmental time that could have already sharpened his game and kept his pitches in the strike zone more consistently.” Mooney reports that the team wants Horton to cut down on his “non-competitive pitches” because they see that as a major weakness that will be exposed by MLB hitters. While that issue may keep Horton from debuting this weekend, it seems likely that he will be up at some point this month, which makes him one of the top prospect stashes in fantasy baseball.

Woof. Pressly took over for the top half of the 11th inning with the score knotted at 5-5. He faced eight batters in total — five of them reached via base hit, Pressly also walked one, hit one and allowed another to reach on a sacrifice bunt. All eight runners, as well as the inherited runner to open the 11th inning, wound up coming around to score. It’s the type of outing that could very easily cost Pressly his role in the ninth inning with the Cubs as it ballooned his ERA from 2.08 to 7.62 in the blink of an eye. Porter Hodge — who worked a scoreless 10th inning on Tuesday — makes for a terrific speculative add any place where he may still be available.

Baldwin’s solo home run in the fifth inning started the Braves comeback that would eventually be for naught, but he has managed to keep hitting despite falling into a back-up role since Sean Murphy returned from injury. He’s only playing one of every three games – very standard for a back-up catcher – yet has maintained some relevance in two-catcher formats with his .796 OPS on the season and three home runs in his last 15 starts.

Phillies manager Rob Thomson told reporters following Realmuto’s early exit from Wednesday’s contest after fouling a ball off his left foot that his level of concern is basically zero before adding that he won’t even need to undergo precautionary X-rays. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern for now.

Herrera was at DH in his latest rehab contest after recording seven innings behind the plate during Tuesday’s game. The 24-year-old backstop figures to return to the Cardinals’ lineup at some point later this week. He’s been out since early April working his way back from a bone bruise in his left knee.
