Don’t look now, but Walker is finally starting to figure it out. His second inning double set up the Astros’ first run of the game – and the only they’d need – in what was eventually a shutout win. He has a .288/.323/.475 slash line over his last 15 games. That’s more like the Walker we’ve come to know over the years.

It feels like Brown just keeps getting better and better. His fastball touched 99 mph and his knuckle-curve was devastating against the Reds’ left-handed batters. He did struggle with his command at times though and didn’t work very efficiently. That caused Astros’ manager Joe Espada to pull him with two outs in the fifth inning after a two-out walk. He’d just crossed the 100 pitch threshold, too. It’s frustrating for him to fall one out short of a quality start, but this was still an excellent outing. His next start is scheduled to come against the Rangers.

Hader worked around a one-out double by Tyler Stephenson with strikeouts of Rece Hinds and Santiago Espinal to save this game. He forced seven swings-and-misses in just one inning and still looks every bit the dominant closer he’s always been.

The 28-year-old right-hander threw 15 pitches during the session at the team’s spring training facility. He’s not expected to be ready to rejoin the Astros until around the All-Star break at the earliest, but it’s still a major hurdle to clear in his recovery process. He’ll continue to ramp up down in Florida before eventually heading out on a minor league rehab assignment.

Hernández also doubled. He obliterated his solo homer off a wholly ineffective Eduardo Rodriguez, with the ball traveling an estimated 438 feet. Hernández has not done much in the average category as a three-hit day still has him hitting .215, but the five homers and .468 slugging percentage are nice numbers. Maybe not nice enough, but nice regardless

Goldschmidt was responsible for one of the four homers the Yankees hit Friday night, with the other three coming off the bat of Jasson Dominguez. The 37-year-old first baseman also singled and walked, and he’s now hitting a robust .345/.397/.486. There were plenty skeptical of the Goldschmidt signing after his disappointing 2024 campaign. So far, those skeptics have been proven quite wrong.

Cora noted specifically that Romy Gonzalez and Rob Refsnyder are a bit banged up and each of them could require a trip to the injured list. It’s unclear what that potential move or moves could be, though fantasy managers are obviously clamoring for Roman Anthony to somehow get promoted to join the big league roster. Stay tuned.
