It’s a complete 180-degree turnaround from Roberts’ tone earlier this week when he spoke ominously regarding a potential return timetable after Hernández hit the injured list with a Grade 1 adductor strain. It certainly sounds like there’s a realistic possibility the 32-year-old fantasy stalwart is ready to return to the Dodgers’ lineup before the end of May, barring any setbacks in his rehabilitation process.

May gave up a long homer to Eugenio Suárez, and the other run was scored on a Ketel Marte fielder’s choice. Between that — and even after — May pitched well; and he struck out five and issued just a pair of walks. It’s nice to see some success for May considering how mediocre he was in his previous couple of outings. He’ll look to continue dropping his 4.08 ERA next week against the Angels.

Trivino represents a worthwhile dice roll for the Dodgers, who can afford to take a chance that the 33-year-old veteran still has something left in the tank. It didn’t take him long to find a new opportunity after being cut loose last weekend by the division-rival Giants. He went unclaimed on waivers after struggling to a bloated 5.84 ERA across 12 1/3 innings (11 appearances) this season.

Hernández also doubled. He obliterated his solo homer off a wholly ineffective Eduardo Rodriguez, with the ball traveling an estimated 438 feet. Hernández has not done much in the average category as a three-hit day still has him hitting .215, but the five homers and .468 slugging percentage are nice numbers. Maybe not nice enough, but nice regardless

Carpenter is 12-for-33 with two homers and seven RBI through eight games this month, putting him at .290/.309/.550 in 137 plate appearances for the year. It’s bizarre that he’s walked just twice this season, but it’s hard to be bothered by it when he’s batting .290.

Judge enjoyed the warm Sacramento weather in Sutter Health Park as he slugged two solo homers. He took JP Sears deep to lead off the fourth inning, then went yard off Justin Sterner to start the sixth. Judge later drove in a third run on a groundout in the ninth. The 33-year-old superstar is up to a league-leading 14 homers with 37 RBI while slashing .396/.486/.772 across 175 plate appearances. Following Saturday’s contest, Judge is leading baseball in homers, batting average, and RBI.

The Orioles just activated O’Neill off the 10-day injured list Friday, and they’ll likely give him a day or two off to make sure his neck injury doesn’t flare up. Heston Kjerstad and Ryan O’Hearn will be the corner outfielders for Saturday’s bout against the Halos.
