The 29-year-old right-hander has started facing live hitters at the team’s spring training complex in Arizona. Given the fact that he was recently shifted to the 60-day injured list, Kopech won’t be eligible to return until the end of May so the Dodgers are going to take their time as they build him back up on his rehab assignment.

Off the injured list for nearly two weeks, the Dodgers called on Phillips for his first save chance of the season and he got through it with little stress. Most interesting, the Braves sent the heart of their order up in that ninth inning after manager Dave Roberts pitched their presumed closer Tanner Scott the inning prior against the bottom of the lineup. There were some strange circumstances in this game as a storm rolled in and caused a lengthy delay before the ninth inning began, but that usage pattern seemingly opens the door for Phillips to siphon off more save opportunities from Scott moving forward.

Betts’ sixth inning blast was both the last run the Dodgers would score and the last one they would need as they clung to a 2-1 lead through the late innings and a lengthy rain delay. He turned on a fastball from Grant Holmes and now has eight hits and nine RBI over his last five games. This could be the beginning of a serious hot streak for Betts.

The Dodgers are being very slow and deliberate in their process here with Snell, making sure that the issue gets completely resolved before pushing him to return. Snell has been sidelined since the first week of April and is going to require a lengthy build-up before he’s cleared to return to the Dodgers’ rotation.

Olson’s home run was the extent of the Braves’ offense here as they were completely stifled by Yoshinobu Yamamoto. He also drew a walk in the ninth inning, but was stranded at first base. While his .236 batting average has lagged a bit beneath his projections, he has a hit in 20 of his last 26 games since the calendar turned to April and will very likely wind up as one of the most productive run producers in the league when all is said and done this season.

Busch doubled the Cubs’ lead from 4-0 to 8-0 with a bases-loaded homer — better known as a grand slam — off Quinn Priester in the second inning. He went hitless for the rest of the game, but if you hit a grand slam, you had a good day. Busch has homered six times, driven in 22 runs and forged an OPS of .894 over the first fifth of the season.

Casas injured his left knee while running to first base during the second inning of Friday’s contest against the Twins and had to be carted off the field. It sounds like the 25-year-old slugger could be looking at an extended stay on the injured list. Expect the Red Sox to provide another update on his status, and probably make a couple of roster moves, prior to Saturday’s ballgame.
