Suárez hadn’t drawn a walk in over a walk before working his two free passes in this one and wound up scoring the Diamondbacks’ only two runs. Also, he made a costly throwing error in the sixth inning that allowed the Braves to lengthen their lead. Such is the ‘Eugenio Suárez experience’ though as he tries to navigate through yet another slow start to his season.

Lawlar extended his hitting streak to seven consecutive games with his fourth consecutive multi-hit effort, falling just a home run shy of hitting for the cycle during Friday’s slugfest. The 22-year-old top prospect has begun playing regularly at second base to add some additional defensive versatility to his toolkit and appears close to getting another extended look at the highest level. He’s hitting .354/.466/.656 with 17 extra-base hits (five home runs) and 10 steals through 24 games for Triple-A Reno. His power-speed combination upside makes him one of the more intriguing prospects in the fantasy landscape and a worthy stash candidate in all leagues until further notice.

Things continue to be difficult for Gallen. He needed 59 pitches to get through the first two innings and it looked like the wheels were about to fall-off. Then, he found a groove and retired the final 10 batters he faced. It was a very fastball heavy approach from him, especially early, because he struggled to command his knuckle curveball. He managed to break off a few good ones, but the consistency he often has on that pitch just wasn’t there. His next chance to get back on track is scheduled to come against the Mets.

Martinez has been shelved since last Thursday due to shoulder fatigue, but he told reporters on Friday that he’s good to go now. We’d surely like to see him demonstrate that on the field before taking his word for it, and if a save chance arises on Friday night we should get that chance.

Loáisiga is at least a couple weeks away from making it back to New York’s beleaguered relief corps after missing nearly all of last year recovering from flexor tendon surgery. The 30-year-old righty has plenty of high-leverage experience, so he’ll provide a lift for the Yankees once he’s back.

The Braves got to Zac Gallen early in this one and later broke the game open against the Diamondbacks’ bullpen. Riley was in the middle of that rally against Gallen with a run-scoring single and then put a bow on their three-run eighth with another run-scoring single. He’s now riding a six-game hit streak over which he’s raised his batting average from .265 to .304. He remains a stalwart at third base who’s on track to put up All-Star caliber production.

Vientos was briefly the hero for the Mets in this one after hitting a shallow fly ball with the bases loaded and two out in the eighth inning that Dylan Crews dove for, missed, cleared the bases, and briefly put the Mets ahead. It was nice to see Vientos catch a break after a terrible first few weeks of the season and after the Mets fell victim to a faulty triple play earlier in this game on a missed call. Vientos also smoked a 106.0 mph single and 100.9 mph lineup earlier in this game, so hopefully he’s finally set to go on a hot streak.
