It’s only three games, but Carter put 12 balls in play against the Red Sox and not a one of them rated as hard-hit. In his 21 Triple-A games before being called up, he had just a 27.8 percent hard-hit rate. For perspective, of the 162 batting-title qualifiers in the majors right now, only nine have a lower hard-hit rate than that. We’re hoping Carter gets back to being the player he was as a rookie in 2023, but he doesn’t seem to be that guy right now.

Leiter seemed to be blossoming in the two starts before a blister shut him down, but now he’s back looking like the guy he was a year ago. In three starts since returning, he’s given up 12 runs and amassed an 8/10 K/BB ratio in 13 innings. He averaged 97.8 mph with his fastball in the first start back, which was right in line with his two pre-IL starts, but he was down to 97.2 mph last Friday and 96.8 mph today. There’s still a lot of upside here, but he seems like a weak play against quality offenses right now. Fortunately, he’ll get the Rockies at home next time out.

It seems like a routine day off for Seager with a day game after a night game. Josh Smith will start at shortstop with Joc Pederson at first base and Dustin Harris at designated hitter.

The Rangers placed Kevin Pillar on the injured list yesterday with a strained lower back, so Duran will take his spot on the active roster. He was hitting .345/.390/.673 with four home runs and five steals in 14 games at Triple-A. He should operate as a utility player off the bench for the big league club.

Marsh didn’t waste any time, smacking the first pitch that Manuel Rodriguez threw in the 10th inning for a go-ahead RBI double into left field. He then came around to score what would stand as the winning run on an RBI knock by Trea Turner. Marsh also singled and scored on Bryson Stott’s three-run blast in the eighth inning. The 27-year-old outfielder finished the night 2-for-4 and is now hitting .170/.274/.264 with one homer, seven RBI and zero stolen bases through his first 22 games on the season.

The 26-year-old outfielder led off the home half of the first inning with a single off of Casey Mize. He then swiped second base, but the Rockies were unable to cash him in from there. He has slumped a bit after a strong start to the season and is now hitting .224/.276/.374 to go with four long balls, 16 RBI and four stolen bases on the season.

Rafaela’s balls in play today left the bat at 105.6 and 104.2 mph, upping his season hard-hit rate to 46%. He’s also made big gains with his 17.6 percent strikeout rate and 6.4 percent walk rate. (He came in at 26.4 percent and 2.6 percent, respectively, as a rookie). His .239/.298/.345 line obviously isn’t great, but everything else is trending in the right direction.
