Springer was removed from Sunday’s game against the Orioles after injuring his wrist on an awkward swing in the fifth inning. It sounds like he was able to avoid any significant injury though, and he should return to the Jays’ lineup in a day or two. He has been an early-season surprise from a fantasy perspective, hitting .375 (18-for-48) with a pair of long balls, 10 RBI and two stolen bases in his first 16 contests.

Scherzer is slated to throw another live batting practice session this weekend as he continues to work his way back from a lingering thumb issue that has derailed his season. There’s no timetable for his return yet, but it’s a positive sign that he’s been throwing without any setbacks,

Clase joins Toronto’s crowded corner outfield mix after hitting .315 with 15 steals in 27 games this season for Triple-A Buffalo. The 22-year-old is unlikely to garner enough playing time to make a significant impact for fantasy purposes.

There simply isn’t a consistent everyday role for Roden at the highest level with Daulton Varsho, George Springer and Anthony Santander all healthy with bench players like Nathan Lukes and Myles Straw still hanging around. The 25-year-old rookie will get a chance to play everyday at Triple-A Buffalo until he gets another extended opportunity at the highest level. He struggled to a lackluster .178/.262/.260 triple-slash line with one homer and five RBI in 28 games in his first taste of the majors.

Butler had led off in 33 of his 34 starts prior to today. Moving Jacob Wilson up to that spot made sense, but it was jarring to see Butler all the way down to sixth versus a right-hander; there wasn’t any reason for him to be hitting behind Miguel Andujar or JJ Bleday. We wouldn’t expect Butler to hit so low for very long.

Soto’s tie-breaking solo shot against Diamondbacks starter Merrill Kelly was his sixth round-tripper of the season and put New York ahead for good in this one. The gargantuan solo shot traveled 427 feet into the right-center field seats and left his bat with a stratospheric 110.9 mph exit velocity, according to Statcast. The 26-year-old generational talent took lefty reliever Jalen Beeks deep with an opposite-field solo blast in the eighth inning to record his second multi-homer performance in seven games since May 1. He also tacked on a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the ninth inning, just for good measure. Soto got off to a frosty start by his lofty standards to open the year, but he’s been hotter than a firecracker over the past week. Are you not entertained?

Carroll was one of the few bright spots for the Diamondbacks on Wednesday afternoon as he reached base safely in all four of his plate appearances out of the leadoff spot, while also slugging his 11th round-tripper of the season in the eighth inning against Mets reliever Max Kranick. He’s gone deep twice in his last three games. The 24-year-old fantasy superstar has put together an MVP-caliber start to the season, hitting .297/.370/.613 with 30 runs scored, 11 homers, 28 RBI and five steals through 37 games.
