Triolo is eligible to return from a back injury on Wednesday and could be activated then. Thung-Che Cheng, who was the callup in his place last week, will probably return to Triple-A.

Falter’s middling arsenal doesn’t really hold up very well against lineups like the Dodgers’ starting nine. He also gave up seven runs to the Yankees earlier this season. He has a 3.28 ERA against the Marlins, Reds, Nationals and Angels, though. He’ll face the Padres next.

There’s a good chance the Pirates cost themselves a game or two by not simply shutting down Bryan Reynolds when he was hurting earlier this season and instead benching McCutchen and using an injured player at DH. That’s in the past now; Reynolds is healthy and back in right field, allowing McCutchen to resume his DH duties. One of McCutchen’s singles today left the bat at 110.2 mph, his hardest-hit ball since 2022. He’s hitting .276/.368/.447 in 87 plate appearances.

Horwitz is likely going to need a couple weeks of rehab games to get back up to speed before making his season debut. The 27-year-old will take over as Pittsburgh’s starting first baseman once he’s ready to roll. He’s been out since early February recovering from right wrist surgery.

It seems like the Mets are prioritizing infield defense over outfield defense. Jeff McNeil is back in center field for the second time in the three games. He didn’t play against a lefty on Sunday, leaving center for Tyrone Taylor.

It will be his third straight start against a right-hander. No word for sure on if it will come at Brett Baty’s expense, but that seems the likeliest scenario. As things stand now, Acuña probably has the better chance than Baty of sticking around once Jeff McNeil returns.
