The 27-year-old outfielder victimized White Sox’ right-hander Davis Martin with his 372-foot (104.2 mph EV) two-run shot in the sixth inning that pushed the A’s advantage to 4-0. That would be his only hit in four at-bats on the afternoon. For the season, Bleday is slashing just .227/.325/.364 with a pair of homers, 10 RBI, one stolen base and a 14/10 K/BB ratio through his first 77 plate appearances.

The second run came in the sixth after Hoglund was pulled following his first walk of the game. Mitch Spence later gave up a three-run homer. Hoglund settled for three strikeouts, but he had 13 whiffs and a solid 28% CSW. Only five of the 18 balls in play against him were hard hit. One imagines he’ll stick around and face the Dodgers next week, but since the A’s have tomorrow and Monday off, it’s hard to say exactly how their rotation will shake out.

Wilson supplanted Lawrence Butler today, and it doesn’t seem like he’ll make his way down from the top of the lineup anytime soon, though he could always bat second, rather than first. The four hits today pushed his average up to .357, good for second in the majors. Unfortunately, he did experience a rare strikeout against Andrés Muñoz in his fifth at-bat, ending the game with the tying run on first.

Butler had led off in 33 of his 34 starts prior to today. Moving Jacob Wilson up to that spot made sense, but it was jarring to see Butler all the way down to sixth versus a right-hander; there wasn’t any reason for him to be hitting behind Miguel Andujar or JJ Bleday. We wouldn’t expect Butler to hit so low for very long.

Buxton gave the Twins a 3-1 lead with a three-run blast in the third inning. He’s now homered in three straight games, and that homer along with a single now has him hitting .274/.306/.541 with nine roundtrippers over 37 games. As long as Buxton is healthy, he’s capable of major fantasy fireworks.

Taveras will be making his Seattle debut against Gunnar Hoglund and the Athletics in the series finale. The 26-year-old has occasionally flashed offensive upside, but while he will get playing time against right-handed pitching, his chances of being a fantasy-relevant player seem slim based on his struggles the last year-plus.

Rodríguez put the Mariners on the board early with solo homer off Jeffrey Springs in the first inning. He added a base hit in the third inning and was hit by a pitch in the seventh. Rodríguez reached for a fourth time with a single in the ninth and scored on a base hit by Cal Raleigh. The 24-year-old outfielder is hitting .221/.323/.407 with six homers, 25 runs scored, and five steals across 161 plate appearances.
