Ward atoned for his defensive miscue in the top half of the first inning by smacking a run-scoring double off of Zach Eflin that tied the game at 1-1. He then came around to score on an RBI single off the bat of Logan O’Hoppe. Even with the two-hit attack though, Ward is slashing a miserable .182/.226/.385 on the season to go with eight homers and 17 RBI.

The 35-year-old southpaw punched out five batters on the day while issuing a pair of free passes. The Orioles got him for a run in the opening inning on a “triple” by Adley Rutschman which was really a fly ball that Taylor Ward lost in the sun. They then tacked on a pair of unearned runs in the fifth, and that was enough to sink Anderson in this one. He got nine swings and misses on 94 pitches on the day, posting a CSW of 22 percent. He’ll carry an impressive 2.58 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and a 39/17 K/BB ratio (45 1/3 innings) into a tough matchup against the Dodgers at Dodger Stadium on Saturday.

Trout has already begun hitting, which is obviously a positive sign. The 33-year-old doesn’t have a timetable for a return, and it seems likely that he’ll need at least a week or two more before he’s ready to hit in the middle of the Angels’ lineup.
