As much as the Twins are struggling at the moment, the blunder will likely be remembered. After Miranda’s single, Christian Vázquez hit an easy grounder to first that Spencer Torkelson handled and threw to second on. Miranda should have been retired easily, except that Colt Keith was in front of the bag and failed to find it with his back foot. The umpire correctly called Miranda safe, but Miranda assumed he was out and started to return to the dugout, allowing Keith to tag him. It probably didn’t decide the outcome in a 4-0 loss, but it was a bad look from a player hitting just .167/.167/.250 in 36 plate appearances. Miranda, who has started only one of the last four games, is a candidate to be sent down when Brooks Lee returns.

Ober struck out only two, but he generated a ton of soft contact — the average EV of the whopping 29 balls in play against him was 82 mph — and walked no one in the 102-pitch outing. This still wasn’t Ober at his best, and he’s probably not going to get back to being especially helpful in mixed leagues unless he regains some velocity. Still, he’s not entirely without value right now. He’ll take a 3-1 record and a 4.13 ERA into Boston for his start Saturday.

Jeffers is finally on the board with his first homer. The caveat is that it came off a 50-mph lob from Will Wilson, as the Guardians finished with a position player pitching for the second game in a row. Jeffers has started 11 of the last 12 games, including two at DH, as the Twins have abandoned their catcher rotation that had seen Jeffers and Christian Vázquez mostly alternate starts the last two years. It wasn’t because Jeffers had been particularly productive, either; this is the first time all year that he’s finished a game with an OPS above .690. Vázquez, though, is currently at .450.

It’s a two-year minor league pact for Canterino, who was cut loose last week by the Twins following his removal from the club’s 40-man roster. The 27-year-old pitching prospect’s once-promising career has been derailed by injuries and he basically hasn’t pitched in the minors since the 2022 season. He’s currently recovering after recently undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery.

Arenado was responsible for the Cardinals’ lone run of the contest when he lifted a run-scoring double off the left-field wall in the opening frame. The 34-year-old third baseman’s long-term future remains up in the air since it remains a realistic possibility he’s moved to a contender in the coming months. He’s off to a decent start this season, batting .255 with three homers, 13 RBI and one steal through 27 games.

Vientos’s homer came on a 65-mph fastball from Amed Rosario in the ninth. Mets fans were actually rooting against it, since it denied Brandon Nimmo the chance of coming up with multiple men on base to add to his total of nine RBI. It was Vientos’s third homer in 109 plate appearances this season. His numbers are on the way up — he’s hitting .320 in his last 13 games — but he’s still not really crushing the ball, at least against actual major league pitchers, like he did last year.

Jung is back at third base and batting sixth for Monday’s series opener at Globe Life Field following an early exit from Sunday’s showdown against the Giants with a right finger laceration. The fact that he’s already back in the lineup seems to indicate that the Rangers aren’t too concerned, which has to give fantasy managers confidence ahead of weekly lineup locks.
