MLB.com’s Kennedi Landry reports Higashioka may require a trip to the injured list, but that hasn’t happened yet. The Rangers are bringing veteran Tucker Barnhart up from the minors as emergency catching depth behind starter Jonah Heim.

Eovaldi didn’t walk anyone while throwing 61-of-93 pitches for strikes before exiting. The only run allowed came on a safety squeeze from Jacob Wilson in the third, and he was able to work around eight hits thanks in large part to the aforementioned strikeouts. He ends April with a sparkling 2.11 ERA and his 46/3 K/BB ratio is nothing to sneeze at, either. Unfortunately, he got just a single run of support while he was in the game, so it’s a hard-luck no-decision against the A’s on Wednesday. He’ll face the Red Sox next week.

Oof. Jackson came in with a runner on to try and get Brent Rooker in a time game, but instead gave up a long two-run homer to Rooker. He allowed two walks and another hit before exiting, and a grand slam by Lawrence Butler after he exited saw his ERA explode to 6.55. Jackson looked good to begin the year as the closer, but it’s fair to say this isn’t going very well, anymore. Don’t be surprised if the Rangers begin conversations for a closer change, if those discussion haven’t taken place already.

Dunning winds up losing his spot on Texas’ active roster due to a roster crunch created by an injury to backup catcher Kyle Higashioka. The 30-year-old righty figures to pass through waivers unclaimed, but there’s a chance another team out there is willing to roll the dice.

Evan in a month where Contreras didn’t exactly live up to his lofty expectations, the approach never changed. With two free passes, he’s drawn two walks in back-to-back games, and his on-base percentage is a very healthy .376 over the first 30 games of 2025. He’s also hit a decent .260 in that timeframe, but fantasy managers are still waiting to see some pop from Contreras on a more consistent basis with just three five -base hits over 107 at-bats. The pop should start showing up, as he’s far too talented a hitter to be slugging just .365 for much longer.

Realmuto had not homered since April 15, but the 34-year-old backstop took Eduardo Salazar deep to extend the Phillies lead to 7-2. He also singled to improve his slash to a still-shaky .237/.308/.361 over the first 30 games of the 2025 campaign. If not for the positional value, Realmuto would be unplayable. Because he’s a catcher, you can probably do worse. Weird how that works.

Naylor gave the Guardians a commanding four-run lead with his seventh-inning no-doubter to right field against Twins reliever Brock Stewart. The 25-year-old backstop has homered in back-to-back games and is up to four round-trippers on the season.
