Soto’s tie-breaking solo shot against Diamondbacks starter Merrill Kelly was his sixth round-tripper of the season and put New York ahead for good in this one. The gargantuan solo shot traveled 427 feet into the right-center field seats and left his bat with a stratospheric 110.9 mph exit velocity, according to Statcast. The 26-year-old generational talent took lefty reliever Jalen Beeks deep with an opposite-field solo blast in the eighth inning to record his second multi-homer performance in seven games since May 1. He also tacked on a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the ninth inning, just for good measure. Soto got off to a frosty start by his lofty standards to open the year, but he’s been hotter than a firecracker over the past week. Are you not entertained?

Senga struggled mightily with his control in this one, matching a career-high with five free passes, but the walks didn’t come back to haunt him, somehow. He finished with four strikeouts and managed to limit Arizona’s high-powered offense to just a pair of hits over six strong frames. The 32-year-old righty has allowed two earned runs or fewer in each of his seven starts to open the season, resulting in a microscopic 1.16 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 35/17 K/BB ratio across 38 2/3 innings of work. He’ll square off against the Pirates at home on Tuesday in his next outing.

Poche provides the Mets with some badly-needed left-handed relief depth in the wake of season-ending injuries to A.J. Minter (lat) and Danny Young (elbow). The 31-year-old southpaw was jettisoned from the division-rival Nationals’ 40-man roster last week and subsequently went unclaimed on waivers after struggling to a bloated 11.42 ERA over 8 2/3 innings (13 appearances) this season. He’ll head to Triple-A Syracuse for now, but figures to join New York’s bullpen at some point soon.

Dropped to ninth in the order of late, Jung hasn’t been as bad as that ‘demotion’ would indicate. His power has lagged a bit – this homer was only his third of the season – despite him missing a week with an injury, but he’s barreling the ball better than he ever has in his career and dropped his strikeout rate for what would be the third consecutive season if he keeps it up. He’s a better option than his surface stats, especially in a weak third base landscape.

Loáisiga threw 19 pitches (14 strikes) in his first rehab outing at the Triple-A level. He’s expected to make a handful of additional rehab appearances over the next few days before returning to New York. The 30-year-old righty is working his way back after missing nearly all of last season recovering from flexor tendon surgery.

Arenado was scratched mere moments before the first pitch of Wednesday’s game. The 34-year-old will likely miss a game or two at least, but his status for the weekend will be determined over the coming days. Nolan Gorman will likely get the starts at third as long as Arenado can’t play.
