Simon was a notable prospect a couple years ago in Tampa Bay’s system, which probably explains why former Rays executive turned Miami front office architect Peter Bendix brought him in a couple months ago on a minor league deal. He’ll replace an injured Griffin Conine (shoulder) on the Marlins active roster.

Wagaman’s big hit came an inning after Kyle Stowers tied the game with a solo homer. Wagaman came into the night in an 8-for-46 slump that had dropped his OPS to .648. Still, he built up enough goodwill early that he’s gotten a chance to ride it out. He’s not a mixed-league guy, but he’ll probably rate as one of the Marlins’ better hitters as long as he continues to play.

Andrew Vaughn’s first-inning homer was the only damage. Cabrera’s velocity was down some, and he struck out just two, which would typically be bad sign for him, but he was facing a dreadful lineup that didn’t even have Luis Robert Jr. available tonight. He’ll face the Rays next time out.

Tinoco has half of the Marlins’ six saves. Calvin Faucher, who has two of the remaining three, pitched a scoreless seventh in a tie game and was credited with a win tonight. Anthony Bender, who has one save, struck out two in a perfect eighth tonight for a hold. We’re skeptical that any of these guys are worth rostering in shallow leagues at the moment, but Tinoco seems to be the preferred ninth-inning option of the bunch.

The Reds scored 10 runs in the first and then held on for dear life as the Astros did their best to come back. The five times on base raised Friedl’s OBP to .360, and he’s scored 23 runs in 38 games. He’ll be a fine choice in mixed leagues next week with the Reds home for six games against the White Sox and Guardians.

Controversy and fan anger doesn’t seem to be taking any sort of toll on Devers. He’s 23-for-56 with four homers, 15 RBI and an 11/9 K/BB in his last 14 games, raising his OPS from .657 to .858.

It also doubled his RBI count of the year. Pederson had been showing signs of pulling out of his slump over the last 10-14 days. It might not happen all at once now, but he’s certainly worth considering in 12-team and deeper leagues and in all leagues that count OBP instead of average.
