The Rockies actually got on the board first in the nightcap of Thursday’s doubleheader, as Moniak smacked a one-out single off of Keider Montero in the third inning, advanced to third on a single by Kyle Farmer and scored on a ground ball off the bat of Owen Miller. That would wind up being the extent of their offense in the game though. With his two-hit night, the 26-year-old outfielder is now slashing .222/.287/.424 with three homers, nine RBI and one stolen base in his first 107 plate appearances.

Gordon walked one while striking out four opposing hitters on the night. He was up as the 27th man for Thursday’s doubleheader so his job was to give the Rockies length — meaning he had to stick around and absorb some innings after the Tigers struck for six runs in the third inning. To his credit though, he settled in nicely afterwards and the only other run he allowed came courtesy of the bullpen after Gordon exited in the seventh. He got 10 whiffs on 89 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 21 percent. He’ll be an option the next time the Rockies require a spot starter.

The 26-year-old outfielder led off the home half of the first inning with a single off of Casey Mize. He then swiped second base, but the Rockies were unable to cash him in from there. He has slumped a bit after a strong start to the season and is now hitting .224/.276/.374 to go with four long balls, 16 RBI and four stolen bases on the season.

Freeland also walked a batter while striking out two in the ballgame. The Tigers got to him early and often in this one, scoring twice in the opening inning, five times in the second and twice more in the third before he mercifully exited. All of the damage was done without the benefit of a home run, though the Rockies’ defense made three errors behind him which made four of the runs unearned. Freeland got six swings and misses on 65 pitches on the afternoon, registering a CSW of 26 percent. He’ll carry an unappealing 6.41 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and a 30/7 K/BB ratio (39 1/3 innings) into Tuesday’s matchup against the Rangers in Arlington.
