Oneil Cruz was removed from Saturday’s game against Atlanta with lower back tightness.
The Pirates are calling Cruz day-to-day after he left late in the contest. It seems likely that the 26-year-old will get the series finale off Sunday, but the hope is that he can return to playing center for the Pirates in the early portion of next week.

Bednar got the eighth inning against the heart of the Braves lineup with the Pirates down by one run. He actually recorded four outs as Ozzie Albies reached on a throwing error after striking out. Bednar struck out two in the scoreless inning. Dennis Santana took the ninth with the game tied for a scoreless inning to take it to extra inning. Bednar has allowed two runs over ten innings with a 15/1 K/BB ratio since retuning from the minors on April 19. Save chances have come few and far between for the Pirates, but it seems the team will be utilizing a matchup-based approach to the ninth inning with Bednar facing the tougher part of the order.

JJ Bleday is not in the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Yankees.
It appears to be a routine off day for Bleday, who hit a bit of a rough patch at the dish recently, batting .212 (11-for-52) with two homers over his last 15 games. The 27-year-old is the odd man out on Saturday afternoon with Brent Rooker drawing a start in right field, Tyler Soderstrom in left field and rookie Nick Kurtz at the cold corner.

Byron Buxton went 2-for-3 with a triple, a run scored, and a walk on Friday against the Giants.
Buxton’s fantastic season rolls on. He started this game with a triple that he roped into the right-center field gap and blazed around the bases like few in the league can. He’s been a true engine atop the Twins’ lineup with nine home runs, seven stolen bases, and an .872 OPS.
Angel Martínez

Angel Martínez hit his first homer and doubled Friday versus the Phillies.
The homer was a two-run shot off Aaron Nola. Martínez is batting .325/.337/.446 with three steals in 25 games. He’ll probably remain pretty strong in terms of average, but not quite .325 strong, and the power isn’t really there to make him a big factor in fantasy leagues. Stlll, he seems like an upgrade over Lane Thomas for the Guardians.
