    Ozzie Albies

    ATL • 2B • #

Ozzie Albies went 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a stolen base against the Rays on Sunday.

It was a quiet game for the Braves’ offense, which could only muster three runs against the Rays. All three runs came in the sixth inning with Albies driving in Marcell Ozuna with a clutch two-out RBI single. Albies would later start the ninth inning with a single, but was erased when Sean Murphy grounded into a double play. The 28-year-old second baseman is hitting .250 with a .751 OPS in the early going, though he already has three home runs and two stolen bases.

    Recap

Sean Murphy finished 1-for-1 with a three-RBI double in a loss to the Pirates on Sunday.

Murphy didn’t start the game, but he laced a three-run double off of Joey Wentz to drive in all three of Atlanta’s runs and tie the game at 3-3 in the eighth inning. Murphy has been splitting time with rookie Drake Baldwin, and these were his first RBIs since April 28th, so it was a much-needed big hit for the veteran.

    Recap

Chris Sale allowed two runs on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Pirates on Sunday.

Sale struck out eight and walked two on the day. He only gave up one extra-base hit, so there wasn’t a ton of damage done against him despite those eight hits. Sale’s fastball velocity was up 1.5 mph, and he posted a 39 percent whiff rate and 34 percent CSW on the day, so nothing to worry about here. He’ll next face off against Garrett Crochet and the Red Sox in Fenway Park, which should be quite a duel.

    Spencer Strider

    Injury

Spencer Strider (hamstring) could potentially be activated to start on Friday against the Red Sox.

There’s nothing definitive from Atlanta on Strider specifically, but they’ve set their starting rotation through the middle of next week, which means the earliest he’ll potentially return would be Friday’s series opener against the Red Sox at Fenway Park. It’ll likely come down to whether the club wants to give Chris Sale an extra day of rest before his next start. The 26-year-old righty is expected to be re-evaluated this weekend to determine whether he’s ready to rejoin the club’s rotation. There should be some clarity on his status soon.

    Recap

Dylan Moore went 1-for-3 and swatted a solo home run on Sunday, accounting for all of the Mariners’ offense in a loss to the Blue Jays.

The versatile 32-year-old victimized Blue Jays’ starter José Ureña for a 403-foot (104.3 mph EV) solo shot to lead off the third inning. That would be the only run that the Mariners could muster in the ballgame. Moore has been terrific when he has been on the field for the M’s this season, slashing a healthy .282/.330/.553 to go along with seven homers, 12 RBI and seven stolen bases (11 attempts). He’s worth a look in any and all mixed leagues where he may still be hanging around on the waiver wire.

    Transaction

Cubs signed RHP Tommy Romero to a minor league contract.

Romero was a highly-touted pitching prospect a couple years ago in the Rays’ system, but didn’t have any success at the highest level. The 27-year-old righty last appeared in the majors back in 2022 when he made four appearances (two starts) between the Rays and Nationals. He’s merely extra organizational starting pitching depth and a true reclamation project at this stage of his career.

Ketel Marte is not in the lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Dogers.

Arizona continues to give Marte regular rest after returning earlier this month from the injured list without a rehab assignment. The 31-year-old fantasy star blasted two homers during Friday’s loss to the Dodgers and has gone deep three times in his last three contests. It’ll be rookie Tim Tawa getting into the lineup at second base on Sunday afternoon.
