    Paul Goldschmidt

    Paul Goldschmidt

    NYY • 1B • #

Paul Goldschmidt went 3-for-4 and scored the game’s lone run as the Yankees secured a 1-0 victory over the Rays on Friday night.

Goldschmidt led off the second inning with a single off of Drew Rasmussen and ultimately came around to score on a two-out RBI single off the bat of Trent Grisham. That would be the only run that either team would score in the ballgame. The 37-year-old first baseman also singled in the third and again in the ninth inning — giving him a league-leading 22 singles on the season. The lack of power is concerning, but it’s hard to complain too much when he’s hitting .373/.415/.480 on the season with one long ball and six RBI.

    Recap

Aaron Judge went 4-for-5 with a double and two RBI in the Yankees’ 12-2 rout of the A’s on Sunday.

Judge’s third four-hit game of the year pushed his average back up to .409, and he’s leading the majors with 63 hits through 40 games played. 23 more hits than games played is already a career-high total for him. He had 22 more hits than games played (180 to 158) while batting a career-best .322 last year.

    Recap

Ryan Yarbrough recorded a rare victory as a starting pitcher after allowing two runs over five innings Sunday against the A’s.

It was his first start since Sept. 28, 2023 and first win as a starter since July 20 of that season. Yarbrough has 54 career wins, but most of them have come as a bulk guy or long reliever. With his velocity up a tad and his strikeout rate also taking a step forward, he should be just fine for however long the Yankees want to start him. However, since the team has off days Thursday and the following Monday, he’ll probably pitch in relief next time through.

    Recap

Ben Rice hit his first career grand slam and walked against the A’s on Sunday.

Rice’s homer off Mitch Spence made it a 10-1 game in the fifth. It was his first homer since he hit two on Apr. 29 and ninth overall. He’s been losing the occasional start because of the desire to include Trent Grisham in the Yankees lineup, but he should retain mixed-league value at least until Giancarlo Stanton returns.

Freddie Freeman went 4-for-4 with a homer, two doubles and three RBI on Sunday, leading the Dodgers to an 8-1 victory over the Diamondbacks in Arizona.

The 35-year-old slugger opened the scoring in the contest with a run-scoring double off of Zac Gallen in the opening inning. He tacked on a run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning and then clobbered a 405-foot solo shot off of Joe Mantiply in the seventh inning that extended the Dodgers’ advantage to 5-0. He has been absolutely sizzling at the dish this season, slashing .376/.437/.734 with nine homers and 33 RBI. The only thing that he hasn’t done from a fantasy perspective is run, with zero stolen bases in one attempt.

    Recap

Nick Kurtz went 0-for-3 before coming out of Sunday’s blowout for a pinch-hitter in the ninth.

It didn’t necessarily have anything to do with his exit, but Kurtz was checked on by the trainer today after jamming his glove hand into Orlando Cabrera’s body on a play at first base. His three at-bats before leaving produced two groundouts and a strikeout.

    Recap

Christian Walker went 2-for-2 with a walk, a sacrifice fly, a run scored and three RBI against the Reds on Sunday.

Walker is quietly 20-for-65 (.307) with two home runs and 11 RBI over his last 17 games. Of course, he was hitting .156 with two home runs and four RBI in the first 21 games of the season. Still, it appears the Astros’ big free agent acquisition is finally starting to figure it out at the plate after an injury derailed his spring training and slow start to the season.
