The Pittsburgh Gazette’s Noah Hiles reports that Mlodzinski will be used as a bulk reliever, similar to the role Braxton Ashcraft has right now. It’s a role that the 26-year-old has handled well so far in his career. Having both Mlodzinski and Ashcraft pitching multiple innings out of the bullpen means that the Pirates’ starting pitchers may not be pushed as deep into games.

Nothing has changed in the prognosis for the 25-year-old backstop, this was merely done as a procedural move to free up a spot on the team’s 40-man roster for the addition of Michael Darrell-Hicks on Friday afternoon. There’s still no word on how long the Pirates expect him to be sidelined for, though he now won’t be eligible to return until the middle of August.

Frazier finally got the Pirates on the board with an RBI knock off of Jameson Taillon in the sixth inning, trimming their deficit to two runs at 3-1. That would be his only hit in three at-bats on the night. For the season, the 33-year-old infielder is hitting .259/.322/.352 with three homers, 18 RBI and four stolen bases.
