Stewart has evolved into one of Cincinnati’s top prospects after being selected 32nd overall in the 2022 MLB Draft. He’s hitting .393 (11-for-28) with two homers in seven games at the Double-A level. The 21-year-old slugger isn’t going to run much and has some defensive questions at the highest level, but he projects as a reliable 20-plus homer power source. It’s great to see him tearing the cover off the ball after missing most of last year recovering from wrist surgery.

This game got out of hand quickly after Chase Petty coughed up nine runs in fewer than three innings in his major league debut. De La Cruz was still able to notch a few hits though and extend his hitting streak. While his full-season stat line doesn’t feel gaudy at the moment, he’s still on pace for 25 home runs, nearly 60 stolen bases, and 100 runs and RBI apiece.

This was a disastrous debut for Petty. His day started by allowing a walk, single, a sharp line drive for an out, and then a 420 foot home run by Willson Contreras. It didn’t get any easier for him after that as the Cardinals tacked on again in the second inning and finally chased him in the third. They clobbered three balls with at least a 110 mph exit velocity and seven of their 11 total balls in play were hard-hit. It also didn’t help Petty that Gavin Lux looked completely lost out in left field, but those are the breaks. He did manage to force 10 swings-and-misses in his short outing, it just wasn’t enough to slow the Cardinals’ lineup down in any way. Since he was promoted to start the second game of a double-header, it’s unknown whether he will get another turn in the rotation.

Petty will make his major-league debut in the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Cardinals. The 22-year-old former first-round pick throws hard and has recorded an impressive 3.52 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 27/9 K/BB ratio across 23 innings (five starts) this season for Triple-A Louisville. He’s worth monitoring in deeper mixed leagues based on his talent and strikeout potential, but he’s an extremely risky streaming option for fantasy managers right out of the gate.

The surface-level stats for Jones are not great. He’s hitting .190/.311/.317 on the season with one home run and five RBI. However, he has hit second or clean-up against right-handed pitching, and many of the plate discipline and contact metrics look much better under the hood. You shouldn’t add Jones now outside of the deepest possible formats, but he is a player to at least keep on your radar in case the process stats start to carry over onto the field.

A nice day that could have been better; Jones’s homer was a 399-footer that would have been a homer in 12 ballparks, and he had a 107-mph grounder that turned into a double play. Jones is still batting just .174/.309/.261, but 19 of his 30 balls in play have been hard hit. He seems to be on his way back to being a useful outfielder for a major league team. Whether it will result in much fantasy value away from Coors Field remains to be seen.

Frelick’s homer off Keider Montero was hit 408 feet, matching his career long fly. His previous highs this year were 352 and then 317 feet. It was his sixth homer and eighth barrel in 823 plate appearances since he debuted in 2023. So, yeah, don’t expect a lot more of those. Frelick is, however, off to a really nice start with his .318/.408/.455 line, and while he won’t maintain that, he could remain useful in mixed leagues while batting fifth regularly and making a run at 25 or 30 steals.
