    Christian Encarnacion-Strand

    Christian Encarnacion-Strand

    CIN • 1B • #

Reds placed 1B Christian Encarnacion-Strand on the 10-day injured list with lower back inflammation.

Now we have a bit more clarity on why Encarnacion-Strand is out of the lineup on Thursday. He didn’t seem to suffer any injury in Wednesday night’s game, but Encarnacion-Strand is also hitting just .158/.183/.298 in 60 plate appearances this season, so perhaps the Reds can use this time as a bit of a reset. Noelvi Marte was called up to take his place, but this should mean more playing time at first base for Jeimer Candelario, but Santiago Espinal has also been taking reps at first base in practice and could get some extra starts.

    More News About Cincinnati Reds

    Chase Petty

    CIN •

    Recap

Chase Petty allowed four runs in three innings and took the loss against the Astros on Sunday.

Petty gave up six hits, walked six and struck out four. His ERA is up to 21.94 after two starts. While Petty posses strikeout upside based on his Triple-A performance, he’s not getting enough outs in general for it to matter at the big league level right now. He’s best left on fantasy benches until he figures it out. Petty is lined up to face the Guardians at home next weekend if he remains in the rotation.

    Recap

TJ Friedl went 3-for-4 with two walks and three runs scored in the Reds’ 13-9 defeat of the Astros on Saturday.

The Reds scored 10 runs in the first and then held on for dear life as the Astros did their best to come back. The five times on base raised Friedl’s OBP to .360, and he’s scored 23 runs in 38 games. He’ll be a fine choice in mixed leagues next week with the Reds home for six games against the White Sox and Guardians.

    Brady Singer

    Recap

Spotted a 10-run lead in the first, Brady Singer managed just seven outs and gave up seven runs Saturday against the Astros.

A stunning outing from Singer, who had been nothing but solid through six weeks with the Reds. He hadn’t allowed more than three earned runs in any of his seven starts coming into this one. The Astros got to him for nine hits, with six of those coming in the six-run third inning. It cost Singer what should have been the easiest win of his life, and his ERA jumped from 3.66 to 4.97. He’ll face the Guardians next.

    Recap

Freddie Freeman went 4-for-4 with a homer, two doubles and three RBI on Sunday, leading the Dodgers to an 8-1 victory over the Diamondbacks in Arizona.

The 35-year-old slugger opened the scoring in the contest with a run-scoring double off of Zac Gallen in the opening inning. He tacked on a run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning and then clobbered a 405-foot solo shot off of Joe Mantiply in the seventh inning that extended the Dodgers’ advantage to 5-0. He has been absolutely sizzling at the dish this season, slashing .376/.437/.734 with nine homers and 33 RBI. The only thing that he hasn’t done from a fantasy perspective is run, with zero stolen bases in one attempt.

    Recap

Nick Kurtz went 0-for-3 before coming out of Sunday’s blowout for a pinch-hitter in the ninth.

It didn’t necessarily have anything to do with his exit, but Kurtz was checked on by the trainer today after jamming his glove hand into Orlando Cabrera’s body on a play at first base. His three at-bats before leaving produced two groundouts and a strikeout.

    Christian Walker

    Recap

Christian Walker went 2-for-2 with a walk, a sacrifice fly, a run scored and three RBI against the Reds on Sunday.

Walker is quietly 20-for-65 (.307) with two home runs and 11 RBI over his last 17 games. Of course, he was hitting .156 with two home runs and four RBI in the first 21 games of the season. Still, it appears the Astros’ big free agent acquisition is finally starting to figure it out at the plate after an injury derailed his spring training and slow start to the season.
