    Tommy Edman

    Tommy Edman

    LAD • 2B • #

Tommy Edman went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, two runs scored and was caught stealing on Friday against the Rangers.

Edman wasted no time in this one, taking Jacob deGrom deep on a fastball high and away to start the game. That wound up being the Dodgers’ only run against deGrom who allowed just three hits on the night with Edman accounting for two of them. He’s been smoldering hot to start the season with a .926 OPS and seven home runs already. That gives him 13 homers in his 38 regular season games as a Dodger, which would match his career-high for a single season. He’s playing like a star at the moment, like the Dodgers needed another one of those.

    Recap

Freddie Freeman went 4-for-4 with a homer, two doubles and three RBI on Sunday, leading the Dodgers to an 8-1 victory over the Diamondbacks in Arizona.

The 35-year-old slugger opened the scoring in the contest with a run-scoring double off of Zac Gallen in the opening inning. He tacked on a run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning and then clobbered a 405-foot solo shot off of Joe Mantiply in the seventh inning that extended the Dodgers’ advantage to 5-0. He has been absolutely sizzling at the dish this season, slashing .376/.437/.734 with nine homers and 33 RBI. The only thing that he hasn’t done from a fantasy perspective is run, with zero stolen bases in one attempt.

Mookie Betts went 3-for-5 with a homer and three runs scored on Sunday as the Dodgers walloped the Diamondbacks in Arizona.

Betts put the exclamation point on the victory for the Dodgers with a first-pitch, 393-foot (101.8 mph EV) solo shot off of Jose Castillo in the ninth inning. With his three-hit attack, the dynamic 32-year-old shortstop is now slashing .272/.351/.435 with six homers, 24 RBI and three stolen bases on the season.

    Recap

Tony Gonsolin picked up his second victory of the season on Sunday, hurling five innings of shutout baseball against the Diamondbacks.

The 30-year-old right-hander scattered three hits and a pair of walks on the afternoon while striking out four. Gonsolin got seven swings and misses on 84 pitches on the day — three of those on his fastball which averaged 93.5 mph — while posting a CSW of 31 percent. He’ll bring an impressive 2.81 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 21/4 K/BB ratio (16 innings) into Saturday’s showdown against the Angels.

    Recap

Dylan Moore went 1-for-3 and swatted a solo home run on Sunday, accounting for all of the Mariners’ offense in a loss to the Blue Jays.

The versatile 32-year-old victimized Blue Jays’ starter José Ureña for a 403-foot (104.3 mph EV) solo shot to lead off the third inning. That would be the only run that the Mariners could muster in the ballgame. Moore has been terrific when he has been on the field for the M’s this season, slashing a healthy .282/.330/.553 to go along with seven homers, 12 RBI and seven stolen bases (11 attempts). He’s worth a look in any and all mixed leagues where he may still be hanging around on the waiver wire.

    Transaction

Cubs signed RHP Tommy Romero to a minor league contract.

Romero was a highly-touted pitching prospect a couple years ago in the Rays’ system, but didn’t have any success at the highest level. The 27-year-old righty last appeared in the majors back in 2022 when he made four appearances (two starts) between the Rays and Nationals. He’s merely extra organizational starting pitching depth and a true reclamation project at this stage of his career.

Ketel Marte is not in the lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Dogers.

Arizona continues to give Marte regular rest after returning earlier this month from the injured list without a rehab assignment. The 31-year-old fantasy star blasted two homers during Friday’s loss to the Dodgers and has gone deep three times in his last three contests. It’ll be rookie Tim Tawa getting into the lineup at second base on Sunday afternoon.
