With the scored tied 0-0, Soderstrom laced a two-run double off Patrick Corbin to give the A’s the lead and ultimately the victory. The 23-year-old first baseman has been exceptional over the first month of the season with 24 RBI over 29 games and an OPS of .940.

Miller did put the tying run on base with a walk, but he was able to keep that runner at bay while firing another scoreless outing. It’s a nice bounceback from Friday’s scuffle where he allowed two runs, and he remains perfect in save chances with a 9-for-9 rate. Miller is a special reliever who has a chance to be among the best in baseball for a very, very long time.

Sears scattered five hits, and issued just one walk. He was more deceptive than overpowering with his stuff — as is usually (always) the case — as he generated just six swing and misses among his 89 pitches. He was able to land 62 of those offerings for strikes in another soli start for the southpaw. He’s now 4-2 on the season, and his ERA has dropped to a very solid 2.94 in the process. He gets a friendly matchup against the Marlins next week.

Kurtz takes a seat with lefty Patrick Corbin on the mound for Monday’s series opener at Globe Life Field. The 22-year-old top prospect is hitting .250 (4-for-16) with three RBI through five games since being promoted last week to the big leagues. Some initial turbulence isn’t unexpected as Kurtz acclimates to life in the majors less than a calendar year after being selected fourth overall in the draft. It’ll be Tyler Soderstrom at the cold corner on Monday night in his place.

It was the only hit of the game for Walker, but if you’re only going to get one hit, you might as well make it a homer. Walker has gone deep four times in his first year with the Astros, but is still slashing an ugly .192/.273/.354 over the first 27 games of the campaign. Those numbers will improve, but there’s no denying the first sixth of the season has been a disappointing one for the veteran first baseman.

It’s a well-deserved breather for the 37-year-old first baseman who is hitting .369/.421/.476 with only one homer, 10 RBI and one stolen base through his first 27 games with the Bombers. Ben Rice will draw the start at first base and will bat second against Blue Jays’ right-hander Chris Bassitt on Sunday evening.
