He’ll take the place of the recently demoted Brent Headrick in the Yankees’ bullpen. Effross, 31, has made nine appearances in the minor leagues this season, posting an uninspiring 9.00 ERA, 2.20 WHIP and a 14/3 K/BB ratio in 10 innings of work. Expect him to be utilized in a middle relief role.

Garrett Crochet took the mound in the ninth inning just three outs away from the first shutout and complete game of his career. Then, Judge hit a 443 foot moonshot on a 3-2, 100 mph fastball that was on the inner black. Objectively, it was a fine pitch and another example of Judge’s supreme greatness. Yet, it merely prolonged defeat as the Yankees lost this game in the 10th inning. Still, that shouldn’t take away from Judge’s brief heroics and the pure awe that’s come from watching him with his 26 home runs, .390 batting average, and 1.265 OPS as we near the halfway point of the season.

The crafty Yarbrough turned into another fine outing here all things considered. Despite constant traffic over the first few innings, he did well to limit damage and not let the Red Sox get the big hit they were looking for. His resurgence has been fueled by some alterations to his changeup and that pitch accounted for five of his nine total swings-and-misses in this start and was incredibly important against the Red Sox’s right-handed heavy lineup. He’s lined up to face the Angels at home in his next start.

While he isn’t in the team’s starting lineup on Friday, the expectation is that he will be available off of the bench. Chisholm took ground balls before the game on Friday without issue and is optimistic that he’ll return to the lineup on Saturday. Oswald Peraza is starting in his place at the hot corner and will bat ninth against Garrett Crochet and the Red Sox on Friday evening in Boston.
