After a hot stretch at the end of April, McKinstry is now 4-for-31 (.129) with 13 strikeouts and just four walks in nine games to start May. He doesn’t need to be held in shallower formats.

Olson struck out five, walked one, and gave up three extra-base hits on the day. The right-hander has a mediocre four-seam fastball, so he relies heavily on his changeup and slider for success. He struggled to command his changeup today, and he needs both of those secondaries working for him to handle a lineup like Texas’. Things will get a little easier next week against Toronto, and Olson can handle anybody when those two seconaries are working, so he’s worth rostering in most formats.

Flaherty was already giving up more hard contact than usual this season, and it really caught up to him tonight. He has surrendered 13 earned runs over 13 2/3 innings in his last three starts, taking his ERA from 2.63 to 4.61. We wouldn’t give up on him in mixed leagues right now, especially since he’s in such a good situation in Detroit. Still, those who had excessively high hopes based on his first few weeks need to keep their expectations in check.

Carpenter is 12-for-33 with two homers and seven RBI through eight games this month, putting him at .290/.309/.550 in 137 plate appearances for the year. It’s bizarre that he’s walked just twice this season, but it’s hard to be bothered by it when he’s batting .290.

Polanco returns to the field on Tuesday evening for the first time since April 4. The 31-year-old has been limited to DH duty over the last month due to an ongoing side issue, which has limited his ability to swing the bat right-handed. He’s been a revelation this season for the Mariners, batting .360/.407/.750 with nine homers, 27 RBI and one steal through 26 games.

Polanco takes a seat with lefty Patrick Corbin toeing the rubber on Saturday night. The switch-hitting 31-year-old is still limited in his ability to swing the bat right-handed due to an ongoing side issue so he’ll open this one on the bench with Mitch Garver occupying the DH spot. Fantasy managers should anticipate Polanco continuing to sit against left-handed starters until further notice.

The 31-year-old infielder did his damage in the second inning of this one, smacking a two-out, RBI double off of Max Meyer that increased the Mariners’ early lead to 4-1. He then tacked on a two-out RBI single in the fourth inning that made it a 5-1 ballgame. Polanco was also hit by a pitch in the contest, reaching base safely in three of his four plate appearances. He has been terrific through the first month of the season, slashing .377/.405/.739 with seven homers, 20 RBI and a stolen base.
