Smith signed a two-way deal with the Lakers in September after being waived by the Hornets two years after they drafted him in the first round. This was only his third appearance this season, but with Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves out on the second night of a back-to-back, Smith was able to take on a larger role, and he took advantage. He came up big late, scoring 10 points in the fourth quarter to help the Lakers win their fourth straight game. He may not play a consistent role when everyone is healthy, but he is worth stashing in dynasty formats.

The Hornets waived Smith on Thursday, and it didn’t take long for him to find a new home. His first two seasons were a struggle after Charlotte drafted him 27th overall in 2023, but he’ll get a fresh start in Los Angeles. Smith showed some flashes of upside, and he’ll get the opportunity to develop in the G League for most of this season.

Smith will miss the Hornets last game of the season after starting in his last outing. Seth Curry could step in as a starter on Sunday after scoring 17 points off the bench in Charlotte’s last game against Boston.

Diabate has missed Charlotte’s last two games due to illness, while Smith had to leave Friday’s loss to the Celtics due to groin tightness. If allowed to play in Sunday’s season finale, both players will figure prominently in the Hornets’ rotation. Diabate offers a safer floor and higher ceiling in active fantasy leagues, as Mark Williams will not play.

Smith injured his groin during the second quarter of Friday’s game. With the Hornets playing for draft lottery odds, there’s no need for Smith to extend himself while dealing with an injury. The second-year guard accounted for nine points, four rebounds, four assists and two three-pointers in 17 minutes. Seth Curry started the third quarter in Smith’s place.

Smith Jr. missed Wednesday’s game against Indiana and could miss another. Both DaQuan Jeffries and Josh Okogie took on extra minutes off the bench with Smith Jr. sidelined and could take on even more minutes with Josh Green sidelined if Smith Jr. misses another game.

While Smith is on the Hornets’ initial injury report for Wednesday, the probable tag suggests he’ll be available to play. The second-year guard has some off the bench the last four games, serving as DaQuan Jeffries’ backup. That’s unlikely to change if Smith is available on Wednesday.

Smith Jr. and KJ Simpson led the Hornets in playing time, but it was Smith Jr. who had the better night as a scorer. Simpson turned in nine points on 3-of-12 shooting, while Smith Jr. posted his 19 points on 7-of-16 shooting, including a 3-of-5 mark from downtown and a perfect 2-of-2 from the charity stripe. With LaMelo Ball out for the season and Charlotte eyeing a potential chance at drafting Cooper Flagg, Smith Jr. should see significant minutes down the stretch.

Smith started a game for the first time since March 8, as the Hornets were without Josh Green. The second-year guard, who struggled as a starter earlier this season, took advantage of his opportunity on Sunday. Smith has reached double figures in four straight and five of his last six appearances. While this hasn’t done much for his fantasy value, streaming Smith in deep leagues is something fantasy managers can consider doing. That was not the case at the beginning of March.

No surprise here as Smith Jr. was initially listed as probable with a right quad contusion. The 20-year-old shooting guard played 37 minutes against the Timberwolves Wednesday and could see a similar workload here.

Smith Jr. is dealing with a quad contusion in his right leg, but it isn’t expected to keep him out of the lineup. He played 37 minutes against Minnesota on Wednesday and contributed 11 points, four rebounds, three assists and three three-pointers.
