Miami Marlins fall to Colorado Rockies 6-4 on June 2, 2025, despite Jesús Sánchez's hot bat. Hunter Goodman's 2 HRs lead Colorado. Full recap of missed chances.

Another Monday, another dose of Marlins heartache, Fish fans. Our Miami Marlins had the Colorado Rockies, owners of baseball's worst record, right where we wanted them with an early 4-1 lead at loanDepot Park. But the good times didn't last, as the Fish ultimately fell 6-4 in a game defined by what could have been.
The Marlins left the bases loaded in the 4th inning and stranded a runner at third with one out in the 3rd. Those missed chances sting.
It all started so promisingly. RBIs from Otto Lopez, Eric Wagaman, and the ever-consistent Jesús Sánchez staked us to that 4-1 advantage. Sánchez, in particular, continued his hot streak with an RBI double in the second. But then the wheels started to wobble. Max Meyer, our starter, had a rough go of it. He battled, but the Rockies chipped away, and Hunter Goodman proved to be a Marlin-killer, launching two homers, including the go-ahead two-run shot in the fifth that put Colorado up for good. It's tough to watch a lead like that evaporate, especially against a team like the Rockies.
Let's talk about Jesús Sánchez. Amidst the team's struggles, he's been a consistent offensive force, going 2-for-2 last night. His bat is one of the few things keeping spirits up. On the flip side, it was a tough introduction to the big leagues for rookies Heriberto Hernández and Jack Winkler. They went a combined 0-for-6 with six strikeouts and a walk in their first series. It's a steep learning curve, and while Hernández did make a highlight-reel leaping catch at the wall, the bats will need time to adjust. Patience is key, but those early K's are a stark reminder of the jump to MLB pitching.
It's impossible to ignore the announced attendance of just 5,894 for a Monday night game. While it was against the Rockies, those numbers are concerning and highlight the ongoing challenge the franchise faces in drawing fans during this rebuilding phase. A winning team fills seats, and right now, the Marlins are searching for that consistent winning formula. It's a tough cycle, but hopefully, brighter days and fuller stands are ahead.
There's always action in the minor leagues. The Dominican Summer League season officially began for our DSL Marlins and DSL Miami squads, both facing Phillies affiliates. Further up the ladder, Triple-A Jacksonville took a 4-1 loss. However, there was great news from Double-A Pensacola! The Blue Wahoos snapped an agonizing 11-game losing streak with a solid 6-2 victory, powered by Kemp Alderman who tripled and homered – what a performance! High-A Beloit fell 4-1 despite three hits from Payton Green, and Low-A Jupiter lost a high-scoring affair, 12-7. It's always a mixed bag, but seeing Pensacola get that win is a definite positive.
So, the Marlins drop to 23-35, and the frustration mounts. The key takeaway? They *have* to capitalize on scoring opportunities. Leaving runners on base against any team, let alone one with the Rockies' record, is a recipe for defeat. The team needs to regroup, find ways to support their pitchers, and hopefully, give the home crowd more to cheer about soon. Onwards and upwards, hopefully.
