According to FanSided’s Robert Murray, the Nationals and Jacob Young are in agreement on a four-year, $23 million extension with an $8 million option for 2031.
That seems like a nice deal for a player who would have been underrated in arbitration. Young, 27, hit .252/.318/.390 with 10 homers and 18 steals in 471 plate appearances last season. As things currently stand, the contract buys out his three arbitration seasons (2027-29) and then his first in free agency (2030). He presumably would have come up a little short of qualifying for free agency a year early under MLB’s current plan, since he doesn’t turn 30 until July 2029.
