According to Taylor Blake Ward of Baseball America, the Angels plan to promote top prospect Christian Moore from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Moore, the eighth overall selection from the 2024 draft class, has hit .279/.374/.422 with five homers, 32 RBI, eight stolen bases (in 12 attempts) and a 65/31 K/BB ratio over 238 plate appearances between Double-A Rocket City and Triple-A Salt Lake this season. He has been playing second base exclusively in the minor leagues, so perhaps it’s time the Halos pull the plug on the Scott Kingery experiment there.

Luis Rengifo went 2-for-4 with a pair of solo homers against the Orioles on Saturday.

Rengifo went into Saturday’s contest with just one home run over 223 plate appearances. He tripled that number against the Orioles, going deep for a pair of solo blasts. His first came in the sixth inning off Keegan Akin, followed by his second homer in the eighth off Andrew Kittredge. Recap

Mike Trout went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and two walks against the Orioles on Saturday.

Trout put the Angels on the board early in this one, taking Tomoyuki Sugano deep for a two-run homer in the first inning. He then drew a pair of walks in the contest. The home run was his second since returning from the injured list on May 30. The 33-year-old outfielder is hitting .226/.313/.465 with 11 homers and 27 RBI across 179 plate appearances.

    Recap

Tyler Anderson allowed six runs with four strikeouts over five innings in a loss against the Orioles on Saturday.

A double, walk, and a groundout brought a run in to score for the Orioles in the first inning against Anderson. Baltimore brought two more runs home in the third inning on three singles. After walking a batter to lead off the fifth, Cedric Mullins and Gary Sánchez would go back-to-back with home runs, knocking Anderson from the game. The 35-year-old left-hander will take a 4.44 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, and a 61/29 K/BB ratio across 75 innings into a start against the Yankees in New York on Thursday.

    Recap

Garrett Hampson went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts against the Brewers in Monday’s loss.

Every Reds fan should be furious that a hitter as weak as Hampson is on the roster at all, much less batting against a right-hander while the team is down one run in the ninth. Terry Francona, though, wasn’t willing to pinch-hit Matt McLain, and Hampson struck out to end the game. He’s hitting .167/.231/.167 in 13 plate appearances since being added 10 days ago. Dating back to last year, he’s gone 63 plate appearances without an RBI.

    Injury

Javier Assad played catch Monday for the first time since having a setback with his strained oblique last month.

Assad, who has been on the IL since the beginning of the season, hasn’t pitched since aggravating his oblique in his Apr. 22 rehab start. A June return to the majors seems unlikely, but he’s making progress.

    Recap

Javier Sanoja went 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI on Sunday as the Marlins topped the Angels 3-0 in Los Angeles.

The 22-year-old infielder opened the scoring in the ballgame as he plated Matt Mervis with a sacrifice fly off of Kyle Hendricks in the third inning. Sanoja then smacked a one-out double off of Hendricks in the fifth inning and scored on an RBI double off the bat of Jesús Sánchez. With his two-hit attack, Sanoja is now slashing .252/.287/.336 with one homer, 12 RBI and three stolen bases (in six attempts) over 116 plate appearances on the season.
