The Jays scored seven runs in the first and led 8-0 after four, only to watch the Yankees come all of the way back and tie the game at 9-9 in the top of the eighth. Barger’s fourth RBI came as part of a two-run bottom of the eighth in which the go-ahead run scored on a wild pitch. Barger now has 10 homers and an .818 OPS in 229 plate appearances this season. He had seven homers and a .601 OPS in 225 plate appearances as a rookie last year.

Bichette will miss his fourth straight game while battling right knee discomfort. Andres Gimenez is also out of the lineup, so the Blue Jays will deploy a double-play partnership of Ernie Clement at shortstop and Leo Jimenez at second.

All of the runs scored in the fifth, which started with four straight singles prior to a long 391-foot double from Aaron Judge. After a Cody Bellinger lineout, Giancarlo Stanton hit a three-run homer to end Berríos’s night. Berríos’s last seven starts have seen him given up zero runs three times, one run twice and six runs twice. He’ll probably bounce back next time out against the White Sox.

It was a wild game, but Hoffman avoided a dramatic ninth, giving up only a soft single to Trent Grisham before getting Ben Rice to pop out to end it. Hoffman is the fourth pitcher to reach 20 saves this season, joining Josh Hader, Robert Suarez and Carlos Estévez.

Wallner was responsible for the only run of the game for Minnesota, as he took Cade Gibson deep in the seventh inning. He’s now gone deep eight times with 14 RBI, and it’s worth remembering that those numbers have come in just 47 games and 151 at-bats.

McCormick has been out since the start of June with his oblique strain. The 30-year-old was not getting consistent playing time prior to the injury, and it seems unlikely that role will change even with the gluttony of injuries Houston has dealt with that could have opened up the depth chart. He should be able to come off the IL near the All-Star break if there are no setbacks.

Rosenthal mentions that the limited number of right-handed hitters on the trade market could make García an attractive option, especially since he’s under team control next season as well. With the Rangers falling out of contention, García could be the team’s most valuable trade chip. Rosenthal believes that, “As long as he continues producing offensively, his trade value would be greater at the deadline than during the offseason or at next year’s deadline.”
