Bregman has expressed optimism that he’ll be able to return before the All-Star break in mid-July. However, Red Sox manager Alex Cora has told reporters that would be unlikely. There should be a definitive timetable once he’s re-assessed this weekend.

Dobbins was placed on the IL on Sunday with an elbow strain, but the Red Sox never seemed overly concerned. The rookie experienced diminished velocity in his start on Saturday, but he was still able ot throw 75 pitches. The Red Sox had Richard Fitts ready to be activated off the IL, so they were able to put Dobbins on and give him some time to rest. Dobbins will likely make a rehab start this weekend and could remain in Triple-A or perhaps come back to take Walker Buehler’s spot in the rotation if the Red Sox want to give Buehler some time to fix whatever is ailing him.

Abreu thought the inside-the-parker was gone, and projected at 423 feet, it would have been in 29 ballparks. However, the triangle in right-center in Fenway barely held it. Fortunately for Abreu, TJ Friedl fell down after the ball rebounded off the wall, and Abreu was able to motor his way around the bases in spite of the delayed start. The slam was conventional, traveling 407 feet to right. In spite of a down stretch and an IL stint, he’s up to 16 homers in 74 games on the year. He had 15 in 132 games as a rookie last season.

The Red Sox seemed to have this one concluded early with a seven-run first inning and Crochet on the mound, but the Reds made things interesting by rallying for five runs off the likely All-Star. It’s just the third time this season that Crochet has allowed more than two earned runs. Getting some better run support, he finishes his month of June 4-0 with a 2.68 ERA. He was 4-4 with a 2.04 ERA through 12 previous starts. He’s likely to make his next start Sunday against the Nationals.

The positive news here for the Cardinals, and fantasy managers, is that X-rays came back negative for any fractures and it sounds like Arenado will avoid a trip to the injured list. The 34-year-old, who is officially day-to-day for now, is out of the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Pirates. He figures to get some additional time off to hopefully put the issue to bed. It’ll be Nolan Gorman handling the hot corner in his absence.

Whitcomb gets the call to replace Jeremy Peña on Houston’s active roster after the starting shortstop hit the injured list earlier this week with a small fracture in his left ribs. The 26-year-old offers some defensive versatility, and has put up some monster numbers at the Triple-A level the past few years. However, he’s been unable to put it together at the highest level and carve out a semi-permanent role. The talent is there and he’ll continue getting chances to make it as a utility specialist.

Arenado has been playing through a right finger issue that cropped up over the weekend when he jammed it on the basepaths. The 34-year-old defensive wizard will get Tuesday’s game off to rest and recover with Nolan Gorman taking over at the hot corner for the second straight game. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for the moment.
