Moncada returns to Los Angeles’ lineup for Tuesday’s contest against the Rangers following a five-week absence due to right knee inflammation. The 30-year-old corner infielder has made an impact when healthy this season, but injuries have limited him to just 30 games heading into the All-Star break.

Soriano cruised through three innings before running into trouble in the fourth. He walked the bases loaded and gave up five runs on two doubles and a base hit. Soriano got out of the inning, but his day would be done at 82 pitches with four strikeouts. The 26-year-old right-hander will take a 4.00 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, and a 95/52 K/BB ratio into a start against the Diamondbacks in Anaheim on Sunday.

Stevens heads back to the minors after getting into five games for Los Angeles after being called up last Thursday from Triple-A Salt Lake. The 26-year-old middle infielder went 2-for-13 with seven strikeouts in his first taste of the big leagues. He’s put up some huge numbers at the Triple-A level this year, but isn’t quite ready to make an impact for the Angels.

It appeared that the Orioles pulled him for defense, as he’s still learning the finer points of playing first base. Mayo is 10-for-47 with no homers and four doubles in 15 games since being recalled from Triple-A on May 31. One can still dream of him offering mixed-league value at some point during the second half, but it’s not happening right now.

With Jordan Westburg back and Ramón Urías still available, there’s very little need for Mayo at third base right now. There still should be ample opportunity for him first and DH, but he’s going to have to step up and claim it; he’s been on the bench the last two times the Orioles have faced righties.

Mayo has been taking defensive reps at the cold corner since returning to the majors last week and will make his first career start at the position on Wednesday night in Seattle. The extra defensive versatility helps give him another avenue to at-bats in Baltimore’s lineup moving forward.
