The 33-year-old slugger hadn’t played since Tuesday and wasn’t making any progress in his recovery, so the Angels did the right thing and shut him down to make sure that the injury heals properly. Gustavo Campero was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake to take his place on the club’s active roster.

Rengifo’s homer is just the fourth of the season for the 28-year-old, and it came off an ineffective Brandon Walter in the second inning. The infielder has disappointed after a relatively-solid 2024 campaign with a slash of just .220/.256/.301.

O’Hoppe swatted a two-run homer off Brandon Walter in the third, and then went deep again with a runner on in the seventh off Kaleb Ort. The 25-year-old backstop is up to 16 homers in 2025, and they’re the first homers O’Hoppe has hit in the month of June. Perhaps this is the game that gets him going again, as he was hitting an ugly .089/.128/.111 in the month prior to Saturday’s game.

Soriano was able to generate 19 swings and misses among his 95 pitches, and he allowed just three hits while walking three. It was an exceptional start for the 26-year-old, and another quality outing for the right-hander, and he’s allowed just one run over his last 20 innings with a K/BB ratio of 28/6 in that timeframe. Soriano will get a chance to keep this good run going against the Nationals on Friday.

Not good. Carroll remains on the bench as he continues to recover from a left hand contusion that he suffered earlier this week on Wednesday when he was hit by a pitch. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo gave an encouraging update on his status earlier this weekend, so it appears they’re merely proceeding with an abundance of caution by giving their franchise cornerstone some extra time off to rest and recover. Hopefully he’ll be ready to return for Monday’s series opener against the White Sox.

It’s an extremely encouraging development for the Blue Jays and fantasy managers that Barger isn’t facing an extensive absence after being scratched from Saturday’s lineup with right hip discomfort. The 25-year-old breakout slugger presumably checked out fine after additional evaluation and testing since he’s back in Toronto’s lineup at third base and batting second for Sunday’s series finale.

We’re confident Hinds will connect for tape-measure home runs regardless of where he plays, but he’s struck out at an astronomical rate against big-league pitching over the last two seasons, fanning nearly 37 percent of the time across 31 games in the majors. The 24-year-old offers an interesting blend of skills, but his omnipresent contact issues limit his appeal to extremely deep mixed leagues and NL-only formats as a cheap power source.
