Perhaps the Braves can only play well against the Mets. After sweeping their rivals earlier this week, they fell short in their season opener against the Marlins. Riley’s eighth inning home run was only their second run of the game as they were shut down by Janson Junk and Miami’s bullpen. That was Riley’s 12th home run in what’s been a good, not great season for the slugging third baseman.

Cox was up briefly earlier this month for Atlanta but didn’t end up getting into a game. The 28-year-old lefty provides the club with some extra relief depth until they need to fill Chris Sale’s rotation spot in a couple days.

It’s a devastating hit to Atlanta’s rotation and fantasy managers alike as Sale suffered the injury while making a sensational diving stop to rob Juan Soto of a potential infield hit during the ninth inning of Wednesday’s masterpiece against the division-rival Mets. The 36-year-old veteran southpaw was in the midst of another Cy Young Award-caliber campaign with a pristine 2.52 ERA across 15 starts. No word yet on how much time he’ll wind up missing, but fantasy managers should anticipate a lengthy absence since he’ll be shut down from throwing until his ribs heal completely.

It looked like Fuentes – the youngest current major league player at just 20 years old – was about to get his doors blown off by the lowly Marlins in his debut. They had eight hard-hit balls over the first three innings and had four runs home. Yet, Fuentes settled over his final two frames and grew more comfortable with his secondary pitches to try and force some weak contact. While it wasn’t a great debut, the Braves have proven to be one of the more aggressive teams when promoting young prospects and Fuentes could get another shot in this rotation soon if Bryce Elder falters or they sustain another injury. This was expected to just be a single spot start though as Atlanta has aggressively reshuffled their rotation in order to allow their top-line starters to face the Mets with seven games against them in 10 days.

Reyes will remain in New York after being removed earlier this week from the cross-town Yankees’ 40-man roster. The well-traveled 31-year-old fortifies the Mets’ middle infield depth. He got into one game for the club last year before being shipped to the Yankees. He can be safely ignored in all fantasy formats.

Bregman is targeting a return to Boston’s lineup by next month’s All-Star break, which means he’ll likely be ready to kick off a rehab assignment at some point in early July. The 31-year-old third baseman has been out since late May recovering from a quad strain.

Saggese has put together an outstanding season at the Triple-A level, hitting .317 with five homers and five steals across 42 games before returning to the big leagues ahead of Friday’s series opener. The 23-year-old middle infield prospect went 1-for-4 at DH on Friday night. He’ll help fill the void left at the spot with slugger Iván Herrera facing a multi-week absence with a hamstring strain. He’s a name to watch in deeper mixed leagues if he’s able to carve out a semi-regular role.
