Falter didn’t have much going for him here. He barely missed any bats, striking out just three Royals, and gave up a lot of hard contact, most notably a 466-foot home run by Jac Caglianone. He was fortunate to only allow the three runs considering the Royals put runners on base in every inning and had four extra-base hits in total. The Pirates will (hopefully) call up star prospect Bubba Chandler at some point during the second half and that could put Falter’s rotation spot in jeopardy, unless he or another starter is traded before that happens.

The Pirates wanted to add a fresh arm to their bullpen in favor of a bench bat on Friday which means that Triolo finds himself as the odd man out. The 27-year-old infielder has slashed a miserable .158/.553/.266 with three homers, 10 RBI, five stolen bases and a 29/17 K/BB ratio over 160 plate appearances with the Pirates this season.

The Pirates needed to clear a spot on their 40-man roster for the arrival of Yohan Ramírez on Friday. Gorski hit just .195/.214/.390 with two homers and four RBI in 42 plate appearances with the Pirates this season. There’s a decent chance that he’ll pass through waivers unclaimed and continue to function as extra depth for the Bucs.

The 30-year-old right-hander has done a nice job at the Triple-A level this season, registering a 3.19 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and a 41/12 K/BB ratio across 31 innings in his 27 appearances. He’ll Pirates’ manager Don Kelly another option to deploy in the middle innings.
