Rice has moved into a more versatile multi-position role since Giancarlo Stanton — who is on the bench to open Tuesday’s game — returned from the injured list earlier this month. The 26-year-old has spent time at DH, first base and catcher of late. He’ll continue to rotate between several spots while providing his usual blend of home runs and strikeouts.

Judge supplied New York’s lone run of the contest when he took Reds starter Nick Lodolo deep to left field with a colossal 398-foot solo shot in the opening frame. His 28th big fly puts him back within shouting distance of Mariners backstop Cal Raleigh, who sits atop the big-league home run leaderboard with 31 round-trippers entering Monday night.

Winans gave up five hits, including a solo home run to Gavin Lux. He was bailed out by reliever Ian Hamilton, who came on to escape a bases-loaded jam in the fifth inning, preventing any additional damage after allowing a run-scoring single to Elly De La Cruz. He struck out one, didn’t hand out a free pass and hit two batters. He’s likely headed back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre with Marcus Stroman (knee) set to rejoin New York’s rotation mix in the coming days after his final rehab outing.

Goldschmidt figures to get plenty of chances this week with the Yankees set to face at least two left-handers, including Cincinnati southpaw Nick Lodolo on Monday night. The 37-year-old sat both games over the weekend against the Orioles after making four straight starts. It’ll be Ben Rice on the bench with Giancarlo Stanton occupying the DH spot.

It’s an encouraging sign that Alvarez has resumed hitting after seemingly being stuck in a holding pattern waiting for a small fracture in his right hand. The 27-year-old fantasy stalwart has been on the injured list since early May and remains without an official return timetable. At this juncture, fantasy managers shouldn’t expect him back until some point in early July, barring any setbacks.

Winker’s return will create a roster crunch for the Mets, but it doesn’t sound like he’ll make it back for at least another couple weeks based on his current timeline. The 31-year-old on-base machine has been out since early May recovering from a Grade 2 oblique strain.
