Walter turned in another good outing here. He faced just two over the minimum through the first four innings and let his Astros build up a big lead. He’s certainly not an overpowering pitcher with a fastball that sits around 92 mph, but a classic crafty lefty that knows how to work the edges of the plate. His cutter was especially tough on the Cubs’ right-handed batters with nearly all of them buried on their hands. The only run Walter allowed did come against that cutter though, when Nico Hoerner went down and golfed one that was around his knees. All in all, it was a great start from a young pitcher that may be breaking out. He’s due to face the Rockies in Coors Field next time out.

Javier is one of several injured hurlers for the Astros who will be throwing live bullpen sessions in the coming days. The 28-year-old isn’t a lock to pitch for Houston in 2025, but he could be a big boost for the club for the final couple of weeks — perhaps sooner — of the campaign.

Garcia will be joined by Cristian Javier in throwing live BPs at some point in the early portion of July. The hope is that Garcia will be able to help the Houston rotation at some point in August.

France is working his way back from the capsule tear in his right shoulder. He’ll need to make a few rehab starts before he can join the Houston rotation, but he could be an option not long after the All-Star break.
