Woodruff topped out at 95.1 mph and threw 66 pitches (44 strikes) in his first minor league outing since undergoing shoulder surgery prior to last year. It was a positive sign to see the velocity where it needs to be, only a couple ticks (roughly three mph) lower than pre-surgery levels, but he only generated five swinging strikes in this one. The 32-year-old should be ready to make his long-awaited return to Milwaukee’s starting rotation by late April or early May.

Yelich had totaled two singles in 11 at-bats since returning Thursday from a bruised right wrist suffered on a HBP, but he hit the ball hard today, with his homer leaving the bat at 108.2 mph and his double checking in at 102.3. The double was just his sixth in 288 plate appearances this season.

Priester has been pitching for his rotation spot every time he’s taken the mound lately, but with wins in his last four appearances and Aaron Civale gone to Chicago, the matter seems to be settled for now. He’s allowed just six runs over 29 innings in his last five appearances, three of which were starts (the other two saw him enter in the fourth after DL Hall worked the first three innings). His peripherals still aren’t great, but they’re getting better; he’s fanned 10 and walked none in his last two starts after amassing a 36/26 K/BB in his first 55 2/3 innings. Priester will face the Twins next weekend.

The last three earned runs came after Quintana intentionally plunked Willson Contreras in the fifth inning, and while it did sort of seem warranted, it might well have cost the Brewers the game, which they ended up losing by three runs. The goes as both Quintana’s shortest start and the most runs he’s allowed this season. He dropped to 4-2 with a 3.35 ERA ahead of a start against the Twins next weekend.
