Ouch. The Rockies have Thursday off and obviously don’t generate a lot of save chances, so they were just trying to get their primary closer some work. Halvorsen previously gave up four runs on May 19 to raise his ERA to 5.30. He’d since posted a 2.65 ERA over 17 appearances, yet tonight undid all that and now his ERA is right back up to 5.30.

Mike Maroth, who was 9-21 for the awful 2003 Tigers, is the only pitcher to take 20 losses since 1980. At this point, it’d be an upset if Senzatela stays healthy and fails to become the second pitcher on that list. After all, the Rockies are probably only going to subtract talent at the deadline.

Goodman will get a day of maintenance against right-hander Lucas Giolito and the Boston bullpen. The 25-year-old All-Star selection will sit with Austin Nola catching and hitting ninth.

Tovar is 2-for-12 in his three rehab games at Triple-A, but is still spending most of his time at designated hitter. The team will need to see him play shortstop for a full game, likely multiple in a row, before they feel comfortable bringing him off the IL. That could happen soon after the All-Star break though.
