Barrero has been jettisoned from St. Louis’ bench mix to make room for newly claimed utility specialist Garrett Hampson after hitting .138 (4-for-29) with one homer across 22 games. The 27-year-old’s defensive versatility should give him some appeal elsewhere as a potential waiver wire claim.

McGreevy has found some consistent success this season in the big leagues, but he’s a tough recommendation for fantasy purposes when he takes the ball on Tuesday night against a formidable Cubs’ lineup at Busch Stadium with temperatures nearing triple digits. The 24-year-old righty is worthy of a speculative stash in deeper mixed leagues after compiling a strong 2.70 ERA and 15/2 K/BB ratio across 16 2/3 innings (three appearances, two starts) this season in the majors.

Muñoz was with the Cardinals for just one day during his latest stint with the club. The 25-year-old has oscillated back-and-forth between St. Louis’ bullpen and Triple-A Memphis this season, making six relief appearances in the big leagues.

Hampson heads to his third organization this season after getting into only nine games for the division-rival Reds. The versatile 30-year-old utility specialist opened the year with the Diamondbacks before being cut loose in mid-May. He’ll occupy a bench role for St. Louis.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy told reporters Mitchell, who is headed for a second opinion on the initial diagnosis, will likely miss at least 8-10 weeks following the procedure. The 26-year-old outfielder dislodged some of the anchors from his previous left shoulder surgery back in 2023 while playing in a minor league rehab game on Friday for Triple-A Nashville.

The Blue Jays are going to pull back a bit with Varsho after experienced some soreness after running the bases over the weekend. The 28-year-old will continue hitting and could potentially be cleared for a rehab assignment at some point in the near future once he ramps-up again from a baserunning standpoint.

McCarthy will get another chance after batting .314/.401/.440 in 49 games for Triple-A Reno. That line sounds OK, but it’s Reno; McCarthy hit .369/.457/.597 in his first stay there in 2022 and .360/.414/.594 in 45 games there in 2023. Odds are that McCarthy will be a liability as a likely starter against righties, though since he can steal bases, he might offer a little fantasy value in deeper leagues.
