Peterson got off to a good start, facing the minimun before the Athletics brought two runs in to score in the fourth on four hits. He tossed two more scoreless frames, ending his day with a quality start while striking out five with no walks. The 29-year-old left-hander will take a 2.70 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, and a 17/8 K/BB ratio across 16 2/3 innings into a start against the Cardinals in New York on Thursday.

The second single was a bunt by Nolan Gorman, putting the tying run on second base and the go-ahead run on first. Megill, though, fanned Jordan Walker, Victor Scott II and Masyn Winn afterwards. It’s the first time since Apr. 2 that he’s struck out three in an inning.

Canning gave up four hits, walked five and struck out two. The 29-year-old right-hander was done in by free passes as he allowed walks that ultimately came around to score in the second, third and fifth innings. Canning walked two in the fifth inning and was removed from the game, but both runners scored on Jonathan Aranda’s double. He’s allowed 10 runs in his last two starts and walked at least four batters in three of his last five starts. It doesn’t get easier for Canning as he’s lined up to face the Phillies on the road next weekend.

Vientos is working his way back from a right hamstring strain and should be ready to return by the end of the month. The big question for fantasy purposes is how New York’s infield mix will shake out once he’s back in the fold. It’ll likely be Ronny Mauricio heading back to the minors with Brett Baty ceding some at-bats to facilitate his return.
