Vargas fractured his feet on Tuesday night when he was hit by a pitch. We don’t yet have a timeline for his recovery, but given that it’s already almost July, it might be hard for Vargas to heal and return to the Diamondbacks roster before the end of the season. Blaze Alexander will take over his role as a reserve infielder.

Gallen didn’t have his best stuff today, with his velocity down about one mph. He got just six misses on 36 swings over 87 pitches, and he gave up homers to Andrew Benintendi and Lenyn Sosa. The loss leaves him 5-9 with a 5.75 ERA. He has some company in having nine losses, but the other four pitchers with at least that many are all pitching for last-place teams. There’s always the chance Gallen will bounce back, but with his strikeout rate down and his walk rate up, he seems droppable in mixed leagues at this point. He’ll make his next start at home against the Giants.

Naylor left Monday’s game and was scratched Tuesday because of right shoulder soreness. The homer, which came off Sean Burke in the first inning, was his 10th of the year.

This seemed like a foregone conclusion with Ildemaro Vargas fracturing his ankle on Tuesday. Alexander has hit .284/.413/.479 in 54 games at Triple-A with eight home runs, 11 steals and a 59/38 K/BB ratio. He has primarily played third base for Reno, but has also appeared in plenty of games at shortstop and a few at second base as well, so he will likely fill a role as a reserve infielder while he’s up in Arizona.

Castro is at third base and batting third on Wednesday night. The versatile 28-year-old was able to come off the bench during Tuesday’s contest, going 0-for-2 in the process. He’s back in the lineup for the first time in three games due to right wrist soreness.

Westburg makes his return after missing three straight contests with his finger injury. The 26-year-old should be returned to fantasy lineups, and Ramon Urias will begin Wednesday’s contest on the bench with Westburg finally able to to go again.

Castro, who has missed three starts with a sore right wrist, pinch-hit for Kody Clemens in the sixth and stayed in to play second base afterwards. It’s possible he’ll be back in the starting lineup against George Kirby on Wednesday.
