Jobe’s best start to date still featured just two strikeouts, eight missed swings and a 24% CWS. However, he was never really threated by the Twins while allowing just two singles. It’d definitely be nice to see him miss more bats, but the talent remains obvious, and in such a good situation for pitchers in Detroit, he probably won’t need to fan a batter an inning in order to offer some mixed-league value.

The Pirates decided not to throw Paul Skenes up against Tarik Skubal because we can’t have nice things. That means Andrew Heaney will take the mound in Game 1, and both Carpenter and Colt Keith will be on the bench. They should return for Game 2, but Jahmai Jones will DH in Game 1.

There was almost zero path to get this contest in based on the forecast around Detroit, which called for some heavy rain later this evening. It’ll be made up as a doubleheader on Thursday instead with Tigers ace Tarik Skubal facing Andrew Heaney in the front-end of the twin bill. It’ll be Paul Skenes taking the ball during the nightcap affair.

Carpenter finds himself on the bench for the third straight contest with lefty Andrew Heaney taking the ball for Pittsburgh. He also took a seat with Bailey Falter toeing the rubber on Tuesday and Reds southpaw Wade Miley drawing Sunday’s starting assignment. It’ll be Wenceel Pérez handling right field for the third consecutive game.
